For almost 90 years, DC Comics characters have appeared on screen, starting with movie serials in the 1940s and continuing through countless TV shows and films. Now, fans can easily enjoy one of the best! All eight seasons of a classic DC TV series are returning to streaming on May 1st, and it’s completely free to watch.
If you enjoy DC shows, be sure to check out Arrow this May! It’s now easier than ever to watch, as all 170 episodes are available for free on Pluto TV after briefly being removed from Netflix. Originally airing on The CW from 2012 to 2020, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as the famous DC character, a wealthy man who returns home after being lost at sea for five years. He transforms into a highly skilled archer and fights crime as a masked vigilante.
Arrow Is a Masterclass DC Adaptation
As a huge DC fan, I think Arrow is easily one of the best superhero shows they’ve ever done. It consistently got great reviews – around 86% on Rotten Tomatoes over its eight seasons, which is amazing – and it really went out on top with a 95% score for its final season! But what really makes Arrow special is that it kicked off the whole Arrowverse! It basically built the foundation for everything that followed, bringing us shows like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman. It’s incredible to think one show could create such a massive, connected universe on TV.
The series skillfully elevated a relatively obscure DC character into a popular hero, and Stephen Amell’s portrayal of Oliver Queen is now considered the most iconic version. It also raised the standard for superhero television by embracing a darker, more realistic style, similar to the Dark Knight films. Unlike many shows with self-contained episodes, this series focused on a continuous, character-driven story, making Oliver Queen’s transformation into a hero more believable by portraying him as someone deeply affected by trauma. The show successfully expanded from a solo vigilante narrative into a team dynamic, with characters like Felicity Smoak and John Diggle becoming fan favorites. Its high production quality was evident in the impressive fight choreography, costumes, and set design.
What’s New on Pluto TV?
Pluto TV added a lot of new content in May, and it’s not just the show Arrow. Fans of The CW can also stream The 100 and Hart of Dixie, while those who enjoy The WB can watch Everwood. On the movie side, Pluto TV now offers films like Galaxy Quest, Gladiator, Beau Is Afraid, Terms of Endearment, and all the Godfather movies.
