3 Great Anime Movies From the Last 6 Years That Nobody Talks About

Now is an excellent time to be an anime fan! Recent films like Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc are becoming incredibly popular, and critically acclaimed movies such as The Boy and the Heron and Suzume have also been huge successes. The 2020s are already proving to be a fantastic decade for beautifully animated and exciting anime features. However, there are also several great anime films from the past six years that haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve.

Many anime series don’t achieve the huge popularity of hits like Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen. They also don’t always have the advantage of being created by famous directors like Hayao Miyazaki or Makoto Shinkai. As a result, these lesser-known titles often get overlooked, particularly by people who aren’t deeply involved in the anime community. While they deserve to be watched, they rarely generate much discussion outside of dedicated anime fans.

3) Josee, The Tiger and the Fish (2020)

Studio Bones’ Josee, The Tiger and the Fish is a heartwarming movie that deserves more recognition, especially since it came out in 2020. While it may not have gotten much attention upon release, those who have seen it generally love it – it has a perfect 100% score from critics and a 99% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film tells a beautiful and realistic love story between an artist with a disability and her caretaker. Though not perfect, it’s a visually stunning and emotionally resonant film that more people should discover.

2) Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (2021)

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is a charming anime film that sometimes flies under the radar on Netflix and elsewhere. It deserves more attention! While it shares some common themes with other coming-of-age and romance stories, it delivers them with a heartfelt and relatable touch. What really makes it stand out is its beautiful and unique animation style. It’s surprising this film isn’t reaching a wider audience, as its story and characters are genuinely engaging.

1) 100 Meters (2025)

I recently watched 100 Meters, and while it came out around the same time as some huge movies, it’s a real standout, especially if you’re into sports anime. The story is about a runner and a former friend who become rivals, and it’s genuinely captivating. But what really makes it special is everything else – the animation is gorgeous, the music is fantastic, and the voice acting is top-notch. It’s a truly enjoyable film that doesn’t shy away from deeper, more thoughtful themes. It excels as a sports anime, but it’s also something more profound, and I think it deserves a wider audience.
