Be warned, this article reveals major plot points from For All Mankind season 5, episode 6. The episode ended with a shocking announcement: Mars and Earth are now at war. Although people have been living on Mars for over ten years in the series, who truly owns the planet has always been a major source of conflict.
When humans first arrived on Mars, various nations and groups established settlements and asserted their ownership. But now that Mars has become a hub for resource extraction, particularly with Iridium mining, and its population has grown, deciding who leads and controls the Martian base is proving to be a major point of conflict.
In the sixth episode, titled “No Sudden Moves,” the Sons & Daughters of Mars group has seized control of the base and issued a list of demands to the M6 – the alliance of countries that claim ownership of Mars and its resources. However, the episode concludes with a firm response from the US President, who refuses to negotiate with the protestors, branding them as terrorists and cutting off all communication.
Mars & The M6 Are At A Deadlock In For All Mankind
Although many Martian residents originally came from countries belonging to the M6 alliance, Mars is now much more than just a workplace or a short-term stay. A new generation is growing up on the Red Planet, with children born, raised, and educated there. Alongside this, small businesses and entrepreneurs are fostering a strong sense of community, despite being so far from Earth.
To prevent widespread deportation from Mars as automation threatens most jobs, the Martian governing body (SDM) has halted Iridium shipments. This is a tactic to negotiate for greater self-determination, including a voice in choosing their leaders and establishing community policing policies.
Okay, so things just took a really dark turn. The President has flat-out refused to negotiate, and the response is brutal. They’re cutting off all shipments to Mars – everything. That means no more food, water, or medicine once the Martian colony uses up what they have. It’s a complete abandonment, and honestly, it’s a shocking move that left me reeling. It feels less like diplomacy and more like a calculated act of… well, I don’t even want to say it. It’s devastating for the people up there.
The Sons & Daughters Of Mars Deserve To Get A Vote In Mars’ Future
Okay, so things started really badly at the Mars base – the SDM just stormed in, took over by force, and held everyone, including the leaders, hostage. There was even some violence, a few Peacekeepers got hurt. But honestly, after the initial shock, when you actually listen to what they’re asking for, it doesn’t seem completely crazy. It’s not like they’re demanding the moon, you know?
The SDM and other protestors were demonstrating peacefully against the planned automation, but when Peacekeepers arrived in full riot gear, carrying weapons, the situation quickly turned violent. Although the Peacekeepers used excessive force, the SDM didn’t initiate the violence and were understandably upset about the secret plans that threatened their future.
The Conflict Is Just Beginning In For All Mankind
Although Miles Dale’s arrival and the level-headedness of people like Aleida Rosales have eased tensions within the SDM, the conflict with Earth is far from over. Because of how fiercely this conflict started, those involved could face criminal charges if they choose to end the feud and accept responsibility for their actions.
It doesn’t seem likely this will be resolved quickly, as the recent actions regarding Iridium exports suggest continued negotiations. However, with the US and its allies showing no signs of compromise, the situation is likely to worsen. The majority of Peacekeeper forces remain at the Mars base and could launch further attacks in an attempt to remove the current leadership.
Okay, so things are getting tense back home in For All Mankind. We see the marines being called back to base, and honestly, it feels like someone’s gearing up for more boots on the ground if this standoff doesn’t end soon. It’s a pretty clear signal that whatever happens next isn’t going to be pretty – looks like we’re in for a rough ride, and things are definitely going to escalate before they improve.
