Paramount+ has added a truly exceptional show to its streaming library: all five seasons of a critically acclaimed drama from the mid-2000s. The series, often considered one of the best TV shows ever made, joins other popular titles on the platform like Battlestar Galactica, Flags of Our Fathers, and Nacho Libre. This addition marks a strong start to May for the streaming service.
Fans of the popular show Friday Night Lights have reason to celebrate! All five seasons of the award-winning sports drama are now available to stream on Paramount+, starting May 1st. The series, which stars Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, and Taylor Kitsch, originally aired on NBC for five seasons and 76 episodes. Based on H.G. Bissinger’s book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, the show follows Coach Eric Taylor, his family, and the players of a high school football team in the passionate football town of Dillon, Texas.
Friday Night Lights Is a TV Masterpiece
It’s no surprise that Friday Night Lights is considered one of the greatest TV shows ever made. The series feels remarkably real, creating a town and characters that seem genuinely lived-in and honest – flaws and all. While football is central to the story and connects everyone, the show truly shines in its portrayal of life’s complexities, showing how small choices and unexpected events shape people. Characters grow, make mistakes, and change over time, and the series doesn’t shy away from difficult issues like racism, money problems, and social class, weaving them into the fabric of everyday life.
Over its five seasons, Friday Night Lights earned incredibly positive reviews, with a 95% score from critics and a 93% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show is still considered one of the best TV series ever made and remains popular with viewers years later—especially for its realistic portrayal of marriage through the characters of Coach and Tami Taylor. Now, more than ten years after it originally aired, a reboot is in the works for Peacock, led by the show’s original creators. This new version will follow a different Texas high school football team and coach as they rebuild after a hurricane.
Other TV Shows Now on Paramount+
Paramount+ is adding a lot of great TV shows in May! Starting May 1st, you can stream all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica, along with its miniseries and the show Caprica. The excitement continues throughout the month, with the premiere of the new Yellowstone spin-off, Dutton Ranch, on May 15th. Plus, new seasons of Criminal Minds: Evolution will be released, and popular shows like The Neighborhood, NCIS, FBI, and Ghosts will all finish their current seasons.
