Star Wars Brings Back the Worst Ever Ahsoka Design Ahead of The Mandalorian and Grogu

Okay, so I’m really excited about the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie! They’re bringing back Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son, and Jeremy Allen White – seriously, Shameless and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White – is voicing him! Now, longtime Star Wars fans like me will remember Rotta from The Clone Wars movie. He was this little baby Hutt, nicknamed ‘Stinky’ by Anakin and Ahsoka when they had to rescue him. It’s wild to see him all grown up now! And speaking of going back to his roots, Hot Toys is releasing a collectible figure of young Rotta… but apparently, there’s a bit of a snag with it.

A new Ahsoka Tano figure, scaled for 1/6 size collectibles, was recently shared on X by Sixth Scale Update. The figure is based on Ahsoka’s look from The Clone Wars, but also incorporates elements of Ariana Greenblatt’s portrayal of young Ahsoka in Season 1 of Ahsoka. It even includes a miniature Rotta that can be carried in Ahsoka’s backpack! However, this new figure from Hot Toys seems to ignore a change made to Ahsoka’s costume, reverting it to an older design. You can see the images below.

Hot Toys Brings Back Ahsoka’s Original Controversial Clone Wars Costume

When Ahsoka Tano first appeared in The Clone Wars, her outfit—a revealing tube top—caused controversy. Many viewers felt it wasn’t practical for a warrior, leaving her exposed during fights. It also felt unnecessary and overly sexualized, especially considering Ahsoka was only 14 years old when she became Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice. Fans questioned why Lucasfilm chose such a design for such a young character. Over time, the studio seemed to acknowledge this was a mistake.

Ahsoka’s outfit changed throughout The Clone Wars series. Lucasfilm also made changes to her original look to make it more suitable for her age, both in the animated series Tales of the Jedi and the live-action Ahsoka Season 1. However, Hot Toys recently released a collectible figure featuring Ahsoka’s original design, and fans have mixed feelings. Some have pointed out that the initial costume feels a little strange and doesn’t quite work on the figure.

As with all Hot Toys figures, the new Ahsoka and Stinky collectible is incredibly detailed and well-made. Hot Toys has done a fantastic job capturing the look of the character, and it comes with lots of accessories for creating different poses. However, some fans might not be thrilled with the outfit from The Clone Wars. This figure blends Ahsoka’s animated and live-action appearances from that time, placing the cartoon costume on a very realistic figure. If the outfit looked a little unusual in the animated series, it appears even more noticeable in this detailed, realistic form.

It’s unclear why Hot Toys chose Ahsoka’s original costume from Clone Wars for their new figure, especially since they had access to updated designs from Lucasfilm. They likely wanted to stay true to what Ahsoka wore in the Clone Wars movie, which included the tube top. It will be interesting to see if this design choice affects sales. However, with only 2,500 figures being produced, they’re likely to be highly sought after by collectors, regardless of the costume’s popularity.
