Taylor Sheridan is known for his popular TV show, Yellowstone. Now, in 2024, he’s created another drama called Landman that’s quickly gaining popularity on streaming and rental platforms, even before its third season airs. Many believe Landman could be as successful as Yellowstone.
According to FlixPatrol, Landman is currently the second most popular show on Apple TV in the United States. It’s also performing well on Paramount+ in Argentina, Chile, and Mexico, appearing in the top 10 most-watched shows there. Plus, the series is a hit on Prime Video in countries like Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, the series Landman draws inspiration from Wallace’s podcast, Boomtown. The show boasts a talented ensemble cast, with Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore leading the way. Other stars include Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chavez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, and many more.
What Is Landman About?
The story follows a land negotiator who strikes a bargain with a drug cartel, a decision that quickly spirals out of control and leads to numerous deaths. Set in West Texas, the series explores the lives of people from all walks of life – from oilfield workers to the ultra-rich – as they chase wealth and power, impacting the environment, politics, and everything around them.
The series Landman premiered on Paramount+ with ten episodes on November 17, 2024, and returned for a second season of ten episodes on November 16, 2025. A third season is anticipated to launch around November 2026, following the pattern of its previous releases.
Landman Has Polarizing Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes
While the series Landman is doing well on streaming platforms like Paramount+ and the Apple TV Store, reviews are mixed. Critics give it a positive score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, but viewers are less enthusiastic, giving it a 57% rating. However, audiences on IMDb seem to enjoy the show more, with an average rating of 8.2 from over 106,000 reviews.
As a big fan of shows that really feel authentic, I was intrigued by what critics were saying about Landman. Alison Herman from Variety pointed out it’s got that same rugged, masculine energy as Yellowstone, and is set in a very specific, conservative world. But she also loved how it really builds this incredibly detailed and believable setting in West Texas, grounding the whole show in a sense of reality. And Bob Strauss from TheWrap simply called it a triumph, praising the performances – which is always a good sign!
Season 1 of Landman received generally positive reviews, with a 78% score on the Tomatometer and a 66% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Season 2 proved more divisive: critics gave it an even higher score of 83%, but the audience score dropped to 48%, indicating a significant difference in opinion.
In a review for the Daily Telegraph, Ed Power praised Season 2 of Landman, noting that, like creator Taylor Sheridan’s other work, its primary aim is to entertain. He described the show as a loving tribute to the challenging world of oil drilling in Texas, and suggested it succeeds in being engaging despite any imperfections.
Even though critics and viewers don’t always agree, Landman is still attracting new fans and consistently ranks high on streaming platforms. With Season 3 coming soon, the show created by Taylor Sheridan could gain even more dedicated followers and become even more popular.
Landman is available to stream on Paramount+.
