Enthusiasm is mounting among fans for Season 9 of Dragon Ball: The Breakers, due to hit stores on July 30th, as it promises the introduction of some eagerly awaited villains into the mix. Among those joining the roster are Majin Buu (Gohan Absorbed), Cell & Cell Juniors, and Dragon Ball Z Broly, all set to become playable raiders. With Golden Freiza’s addition in Season 8, players can hardly contain their excitement at the prospect of experiencing this fiercer version of Broly in action.
As a devoted fan, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I finally got a glimpse of the upcoming Season 9 trailer, particularly the portrayal of the iconic Broly from Dragon Ball Z. For years, longtime series enthusiasts like myself have been eagerly anticipating this moment. Interestingly, during Season 4, we were introduced to Dragon Ball Super Broly as a raider. However, some of us weren’t entirely content because that version seemed to fall short in capturing the raw ferocity that defines the original Broly.
In 2022, Bandai Namco launched Dragon Ball: The Breakers, but it didn’t receive the best critical reception. Despite being enjoyable to play, players criticized its monetization methods, claiming they allowed “Pay-to-Win” tactics. The game incorporated both micro-transactions and a gacha system while also requiring payment for the initial purchase. Yet, despite these complaints, the game seems to have been profitable enough to continue receiving support for regular content updates almost three years after its release.
Some Dragon Ball enthusiasts were taken aback when they learned about Broly and the upcoming Season 9, as they had unknowingly let slip from their minds that the game was still receiving new content updates.
Indeed, I’m astonished that this isn’t just surviving but seems to be thriving enough to reach season gnn 9,” posted Reddit user Loopy-Loophole.
Despite numerous Dragon Ball games available now, Dragon Ball: The Breakers stands out with its distinct gameplay. Players progress and struggle to endure against a single powerful player who embodies a Dragon Ball series villain. This 1v7 gameplay style mirrors the desperation of the underdog heroes in the show in a way that other Dragon Ball games haven’t managed quite as effectively.
AverageBlubber, a Reddit user, had written that the game seemed lifeless and disheartening following last season’s poor performance. However, with the announcement of two additional reworks, including Z Brolly, it seems like the developers might be extending a small gesture of apology.
Since its debut, the player count for this game appears to have drastically decreased. As per SteamDB, approximately 95% of its initial Steam players are no longer playing. Following its launch, the game introduced cross-platform play and is now accessible on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch as well. However, it appears that crossplay hasn’t significantly improved the long wait times for finding matches.
It’s unfortunate that the game purchased by user Shenron759 couldn’t be played, as they were unable to join a match on their PC. This was the case when they last tried playing it and eventually returned the game for a refund.
With the arrival of Season 9 and Broly, it’s likely that waiting times for matches will decrease due to the increased number of players joining in. To celebrate the launch of Season 9, the game plans to offer extra summoning tickets and various other prizes.
