Now that the X-Men are joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can expect some fantastic comic book storylines to come to life on screen. The X-Men have always been among Marvel’s most popular characters, and their stories of mutants with superpowers have consistently captivated fans. While previous X-Men movies brought many characters to life, they didn’t always fully satisfy viewers – something fans are hoping the MCU will fix. It’s incredibly exciting to imagine the X-Men fighting alongside other Marvel heroes, and this new development opens up a wealth of storytelling possibilities.
I’m so excited about the X-Men finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe! It’s not just about seeing them team up with the Avengers and other heroes – they’re going to get their own stories too, and Marvel has said they’re looking at the classic X-Men comics, especially the ones written by Chris Claremont. Claremont’s work is amazing – he created so many of the stories we all love, which means there’s a ton of material the MCU can use. Honestly, there are a few storylines in particular that need to be adapted for the big screen, and I can’t wait to see which ones they choose!
7) Proteus
A lesser-known story by Chris Claremont featured Proteus, who was then the X-Men’s most formidable enemy. His reality-bending powers made for a thrilling and dynamic story with strong potential for a movie adaptation. Introducing Proteus into the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn’t require a huge storyline, but it could still make for a fantastic X-Men film.
6) The Brood Saga
If the Marvel Cinematic Universe wants a great X-Men story to adapt, The Brood Saga is a top choice. It expanded the X-Men’s world into a larger, more cosmic setting and successfully blended science fiction with horror elements in their stories. Widely considered one of Chris Claremont’s most creative X-Men tales, it has the potential to be a truly unique and refreshing X-Men movie.
5) Mutant Massacre
While not always considered a top-tier X-Men event, the Mutant Massacre storyline offers a strong foundation for introducing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It uniquely includes appearances from both Thor and Daredevil, and delivers the kind of intense drama and action that would translate well to the big screen. Crucially, it explores core X-Men themes – specifically, the prejudice against mutants escalating into violence – placing the heroes in a truly challenging and perilous scenario.
4) Inferno
The Inferno storyline is a prime candidate for a big-screen adaptation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This classic X-Men crossover involved a wide range of Marvel characters, making it an ideal way to fully integrate the X-Men into the broader MCU. Though elements of Inferno appeared in X-Men ’97, a live-action version could be truly spectacular.
3) Excalibur
The Excalibur storyline, though often seen as a minor part of the larger Inferno saga, offers a unique, self-contained story where the X-Men team up with Captain Britain – a popular hero fans have been hoping to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This makes it a surprisingly good fit for an MCU X-Men film, particularly if some of the most famous X-Men characters were added. Compared to other stories from the Claremont era, it’s a smaller crossover event, which would be an ideal way to gradually introduce the X-Men into the broader MCU.
2) X-Tinction Agenda
While not the most expected choice, the X-Tinction Agenda storyline could be a great way to introduce the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This 1990s story features the team coming back together after being separated, and focuses on their fight against the oppressive government of Genosha. It’s a strong option because it allows the team to be established without retelling their origin story, and it begins at a logical point with many fan-favorite characters.
1) God Loves, Man Kills
Widely considered a top X-Men story ever told, God Loves, Man Kills previously inspired parts of the 2003 film X2. But a more accurate adaptation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a fantastic way to introduce the X-Men, bringing this beloved story to a new audience. Not only is it a classic by Chris Claremont, but God Loves, Man Kills tackles important and relevant issues, making it an ideal fit for the MCU’s developing story about mutants.
