Sofía Vergara Undergoes Knee Surgery

Sofía Vergara is on the mend. 

After more than a year since her first knee surgery was disclosed, the former star of “Modern Family” has shared an update about her health. Now, she’s on the road to recovery following her second operation.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently took to Instagram to share an intimate moment from my day at the hospital. Dressed in a tranquil blue gown, I posed for a selfie from within a doctor’s private space, surrounded by a discreet privacy curtain. In another candid shot, I offered a closer look at my leg adorned with a stylish grey brace on my calf and a pristine white bandage gracing my knee.

Vergara, without specifying the reason for the operations, wrote “It’s finished” as the caption for these photos. She’s now preparing for “Round 2”.

Indeed, this was not the Griselda star’s first time going under the knife. 

In April 2024, Vergara disclosed that she had undergone a knee surgery and was being looked after by her boyfriend at the time, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. However, their relationship ended in January 2025, approximately a year and a half into their dating period.

She once wrote on her Instagram Stories, “If you ever need a major knee surgery, ensure you choose an exceptionally skilled doctor who will accompany you with understanding and care that night…!”. Sincerely, love to you.

Apart from sharing about her knee surgery, Vergara has also been open about other health challenges in her life. For instance, back in 2021, she publicly discussed her thyroid cancer diagnosis when she was just 28 years old.

She expressed during a Stand Up To Cancer TV special that when you’re young and first encounter the word ‘cancer’, your thoughts wander to numerous places. However, she made an effort not to panic and instead chose to educate herself. She read every book available and researched extensively about it.

Fortunately, Vergara’s diagnosis didn’t require immediate life-saving measures. Post-surgery to excise her thyroid gland and subsequent radiation therapy, she was declared cancer-free.

Vergara stated, “I consider myself lucky because I was able to detect it early on, and I had the assistance of my medical professionals, but what truly mattered most was the support from my family. During that challenging period, I gained valuable insights not only about thyroid cancer but also realized that in hard times, we’re stronger as a unit, and if we aim to conquer cancer, it will require collective effort.

At this moment, my feet to my knees are still numb, which is quite unusual,” he remarked during his March 2025 episode of the Trading Secrets podcast. “To give you an idea, around two or three weeks ago, maybe a month back, I was squatting about 295 pounds. And now, I can’t even do a one-legged squat without falling. It’s as if I had a stroke or something.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Despite the internet often being unkind, Amy Schumer is grateful that in this instance, it provided her with valuable insights.

In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, Amy recollected, “The internet really went after me following a series of interviews I did, and I responded, ‘Everybody, relax.'” However, medical professionals began commenting, expressing concern about her appearance and suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. Despite these symptoms ceasing shortly after, Hailey decided to visit the hospital for a checkup.

The medical professionals conducted scans which revealed a small blood clot in her brain, classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Later, she was diagnosed with a hole in her heart known as patent foramen ovale (PFO). Hailey explained that the blood clot had passed through this hole into her heart and then escaped to her brain, causing the TIA.

She underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.

In the same year Hailey encountered her health issue, Justin Bieber also faced his own medical challenge. Specifically, in June 2022, the “Baby” singer disclosed a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which led to temporary facial paralysis and necessitated the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour. As he explained in an Instagram video, this condition affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing one side of his face to become paralyzed – with symptoms like lack of blinking, inability to smile on one side, and a non-moving nostril. He also shared that eating had become increasingly difficult due to the paralysis. However, over time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey commented on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, stating, “He’s doing really well,” and later adding, “He’s feeling a lot better… He’ll be totally okay, and I’m just grateful that he’s fine.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share Jamie Foxx’s own words about his experience in April 2023. She suspected something was terribly wrong with her brain. Hospitalized for a scan, she received the grim diagnosis: subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening type of stroke caused by bleeding in the space surrounding the brain.

She underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and found herself muttering nonsensical words. A week later, the aphasia passed, and she was discharged a month after being admitted.

In 2013, a follow-up brain scan revealed the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. Upon waking from the operation, she was screaming in pain as the procedure had failed. The doctors informed her that her chances of survival were precarious if they didn’t operate again, this time accessing her brain through her skull.

Thankfully, Emilia is now “at a hundred percent,” a testament to her resilience and the power of human spirit.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, expresses her gratitude towards her family. This is because they were quick to support her when she experienced a severe stroke in January 2024.

“I shared the news of my stroke with them through text messages and pictures,” she recalled to Will Marfuggi from TopMob News in December 2024. “Everyone came to my aid immediately.”

Unfortunately, Cori’s hospital stay was extended due to additional health issues. She mentioned, “Initially, I thought I could go home after the stroke, but my lupus wasn’t responding well. My kidneys were failing, and there was a lot happening all at once.”

However, today, she is recovering well.

“I’m doing quite well,” Cori shared. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but otherwise, I was in good shape.

During her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley faced numerous health challenges. At one point, she lost hearing, struggled to walk for extended periods, and experienced stomach pain with every meal. She was diagnosed with a complex mix of conditions by different doctors, but it wasn’t until she sought help from both conventional and alternative healers that she found some relief.

Shailene, who has a background in holistic medicine and herbalism, embarked on a ten-year quest to understand her condition. During this time, she also grappled with fear of food due to her stomach pain, which led to mental health issues such as body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity within herself.

After dedicating significant effort to addressing both her physical and mental well-being, Shailene is now in a much better state of health. She shared that the journey ultimately resolved itself, and she is grateful for her current state of good health.
