Sofía Vergara is on the mend.
After more than a year since her first knee surgery was disclosed, the former star of “Modern Family” has shared an update about her health. Now, she’s on the road to recovery following her second operation.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently took to Instagram to share an intimate moment from my day at the hospital. Dressed in a tranquil blue gown, I posed for a selfie from within a doctor’s private space, surrounded by a discreet privacy curtain. In another candid shot, I offered a closer look at my leg adorned with a stylish grey brace on my calf and a pristine white bandage gracing my knee.
Vergara, without specifying the reason for the operations, wrote “It’s finished” as the caption for these photos. She’s now preparing for “Round 2”.
Indeed, this was not the Griselda star’s first time going under the knife.
In April 2024, Vergara disclosed that she had undergone a knee surgery and was being looked after by her boyfriend at the time, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. However, their relationship ended in January 2025, approximately a year and a half into their dating period.
She once wrote on her Instagram Stories, “If you ever need a major knee surgery, ensure you choose an exceptionally skilled doctor who will accompany you with understanding and care that night…!”. Sincerely, love to you.
Apart from sharing about her knee surgery, Vergara has also been open about other health challenges in her life. For instance, back in 2021, she publicly discussed her thyroid cancer diagnosis when she was just 28 years old.
She expressed during a Stand Up To Cancer TV special that when you’re young and first encounter the word ‘cancer’, your thoughts wander to numerous places. However, she made an effort not to panic and instead chose to educate herself. She read every book available and researched extensively about it.
Fortunately, Vergara’s diagnosis didn’t require immediate life-saving measures. Post-surgery to excise her thyroid gland and subsequent radiation therapy, she was declared cancer-free.
Vergara stated, “I consider myself lucky because I was able to detect it early on, and I had the assistance of my medical professionals, but what truly mattered most was the support from my family. During that challenging period, I gained valuable insights not only about thyroid cancer but also realized that in hard times, we’re stronger as a unit, and if we aim to conquer cancer, it will require collective effort.

In 2014, the year I was honored with an Oscar for my role in “12 Years a Slave”, I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids – these are benign growths that can form near or within the uterus.
In 2025, I finally shared my diagnosis, using Instagram to express that I had been quietly enduring it for over a decade beforehand.
She expressed that when we enter puberty, we are often led to believe that periods come with pain, and this discomfort is just an inevitable aspect of being female. She highlighted the fact that many women endure this struggle individually as it significantly impacts their lives.
In July 2025, one of the stars from Daisy Jones & The Six announced that she had been admitted to the hospital due to a hernia, which is typically a tear in the abdominal or groin muscle wall, resulting from prolonged wear of tight-fitting pants.
She wrote on the platform that was once called Twitter, “‘You don’t post on Twitter much anymore,'” she said. “Six months ago, my pants were so tight they gave me a hernia, and I’ve been too afraid to mention it to you.
In an announcement made in April 2025, the former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was on the mend following an appendectomy, as his appendix had come close to rupturing.
A week ago, I began experiencing discomfort in my abdomen,” Brian explained in an Instagram post. “Eventually, I was taken to the hospital where they found a perforated appendix – not completely ruptured yet.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”
Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered when a cement truck struck him at age 11 have persisted and continue to impact him up until now.
In that 2025 episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine expressed it as a difficult and frightening period. He explained that he has been experiencing spasms throughout his body. Furthermore, he shared that doctors had informed him he was close to death—specifically within the last year.
He mentioned that pain occasionally appears and disappears, expressing, “There seem to be several minor issues and discrepancies in my body.
Previously part of Bachelor Nation, this individual disclosed that he had to seek medical attention after enduring unbearable back pain which worsened during a camping trip with a companion, forcing him to crawl on all fours for assistance.
At this moment, my feet to my knees are still numb, which is quite unusual,” he remarked during his March 2025 episode of the Trading Secrets podcast. “To give you an idea, around two or three weeks ago, maybe a month back, I was squatting about 295 pounds. And now, I can’t even do a one-legged squat without falling. It’s as if I had a stroke or something.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”
In March 2025, I, Gina Kirschenheiter from Real Housewives of Orange County, shared that my ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, experienced a heart attack. Fortunately, he pulled through this difficult situation.
In March 2025, during a New York Knicks basketball game, the main actor from 30 Rock experienced a sudden health issue, causing him to be transported from Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
Yet, the entertainer posted an update on social media the next day, explaining it was due to food poisoning and he was recovering well.
In February 2025, the former star of Even Stevens revealed that she had been accidentally shot in the face during a trip to go clay pigeon shooting, which was organized to celebrate her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
Another person at our gathering discharged their weapon recklessly, hitting me square in the face. @thebrendanrooney reacted quickly, evaluated my injuries, and swiftly transported me to the hospital. I was struck in five spots, one of which was dangerously close to my right eye.
The former star of ‘Kim Possible’ added, ‘Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe to take out through surgery right now. The doctors are keeping a close watch on me, and I can see fine for now.’
The actress expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive. “My family – my daughters, husband, loved ones – means everything to me,” she shared. “A moment ago, I had a glimpse of my life’s journey, and let me tell you, cherish the people close to you whenever you can. Life can turn unexpectedly in the blink of an eye.
Despite the internet often being unkind, Amy Schumer is grateful that in this instance, it provided her with valuable insights.
In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, Amy recollected, “The internet really went after me following a series of interviews I did, and I responded, ‘Everybody, relax.'” However, medical professionals began commenting, expressing concern about her appearance and suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. Amy was taken aback, thinking, “I’m being trolled by doctors?”
Upon hearing the doctors’ theories that her symptoms could be due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections, Amy realized, “I had been receiving steroid injections for my scars.”
“I underwent a breast reduction and C-section,” Amy explained. “So I was receiving these steroid injections. This resulted in me developing Cushing syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known about if the internet hadn’t criticized me so harshly.”
Now, Amy is simply relieved to know she’s healthy. As she wrote in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, “Discovering that the type of Cushing syndrome I have will resolve itself and that I am well was the best news I could have hoped for.
In a game played in December 2024, an AHL player got 25 stitches after being sliced by another player’s skate. Subsequently, when his son had completely healed, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald expressed gratitude to ESPN, stating, “We’re incredibly fortunate. I wouldn’t wish that experience on any parent.
In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying incident during breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber when she started exhibiting symptoms similar to a stroke. She revealed this experience a month later on YouTube, explaining that she couldn’t respond when asked if she was okay and struggled to speak, with the right side of her face drooping. Despite these symptoms ceasing shortly after, Hailey decided to visit the hospital for a checkup.
The medical professionals conducted scans which revealed a small blood clot in her brain, classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Later, she was diagnosed with a hole in her heart known as patent foramen ovale (PFO). Hailey explained that the blood clot had passed through this hole into her heart and then escaped to her brain, causing the TIA.
She underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.
In the same year Hailey encountered her health issue, Justin Bieber also faced his own medical challenge. Specifically, in June 2022, the “Baby” singer disclosed a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which led to temporary facial paralysis and necessitated the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour. As he explained in an Instagram video, this condition affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing one side of his face to become paralyzed – with symptoms like lack of blinking, inability to smile on one side, and a non-moving nostril. He also shared that eating had become increasingly difficult due to the paralysis. However, over time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey commented on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America, stating, “He’s doing really well,” and later adding, “He’s feeling a lot better… He’ll be totally okay, and I’m just grateful that he’s fine.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share Jamie Foxx’s own words about his experience in April 2023. In his Netflix special, “What Had Happened Was…,” he recounted, “I was experiencing such a severe headache one day in Atlanta that I asked my friend for an aspirin. Before I could even get the aspirin, I passed out. I can’t recall 20 days afterward.”
Initially, Jamie was treated by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, sensing something was wrong, drove him to a hospital. There, they discovered the cause: a brain bleed that had triggered a stroke.
Following a surgery on the 20th day, Jamie woke up May 4 in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. In his own words, “All I can express is gratitude for every prayer, as I truly felt each one.
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but share Emilia Clarke’s heartrending account of her ordeal. In her own words penned for The New Yorker, she titled it “A Battle for My Life.”
She recounted an incident at the gym where a debilitating headache led her to the toilet, where she was violently ill and the pain intensified. She suspected something was terribly wrong with her brain. Hospitalized for a scan, she received the grim diagnosis: subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening type of stroke caused by bleeding in the space surrounding the brain.
She underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as unbearable. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia and found herself muttering nonsensical words. A week later, the aphasia passed, and she was discharged a month after being admitted.
In 2013, a follow-up brain scan revealed the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. Upon waking from the operation, she was screaming in pain as the procedure had failed. The doctors informed her that her chances of survival were precarious if they didn’t operate again, this time accessing her brain through her skull.
Thankfully, Emilia is now “at a hundred percent,” a testament to her resilience and the power of human spirit.
Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, expresses her gratitude towards her family. This is because they were quick to support her when she experienced a severe stroke in January 2024.
“I shared the news of my stroke with them through text messages and pictures,” she recalled to Will Marfuggi from TopMob News in December 2024. “Everyone came to my aid immediately.”
Unfortunately, Cori’s hospital stay was extended due to additional health issues. She mentioned, “Initially, I thought I could go home after the stroke, but my lupus wasn’t responding well. My kidneys were failing, and there was a lot happening all at once.”
However, today, she is recovering well.
“I’m doing quite well,” Cori shared. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but otherwise, I was in good shape.
During her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley faced numerous health challenges. At one point, she lost hearing, struggled to walk for extended periods, and experienced stomach pain with every meal. She was diagnosed with a complex mix of conditions by different doctors, but it wasn’t until she sought help from both conventional and alternative healers that she found some relief.
Shailene, who has a background in holistic medicine and herbalism, embarked on a ten-year quest to understand her condition. During this time, she also grappled with fear of food due to her stomach pain, which led to mental health issues such as body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity within herself.
After dedicating significant effort to addressing both her physical and mental well-being, Shailene is now in a much better state of health. She shared that the journey ultimately resolved itself, and she is grateful for her current state of good health.
