Why Chase Sui Wonders’ Met Gala 2026 Dress Will Be Your Roman Empire

Chase Sui Wonders latest look is inspired by some of the greatest artists of all time—literally.

The actress from The Studio, and a member of the 2026 Met Gala host committee with Zoë Kravitz, Sabrina Carpenter, and other stars, attended the May 4th event for the first time. She wore a stunning purple McQueen gown inspired by ancient Rome.

Chase recently visited Pompeii and shared his experience with Zuri Hall during a Live from TopMob Met Gala interview. He was particularly impressed by the ancient Roman wall paintings, some dating back to 200 B.C., describing them as both raw and beautiful, and noting the use of natural pigments.

The star of Bodies Bodies Bodies, with styling by Thomas Carter Phillips, took inspiration from the trip for the night’s theme, “Costume Art,” and its “Fashion Is Art” dress code.

Chase pointed to the gown, explaining that its excellent condition suggested it was inspired by ancient Rome. (You can find photos of all the stars from the 2026 Met Gala here.)

While this is her first time attending the Met Gala, the 29-year-old has always loved fashion. She credits her aunt, designer Anna Sui, with teaching her how to create a standout look.

Chase explained to Nylon magazine in 2022 that while her aunt works in fashion, she herself had a very tomboyish childhood. She described wearing the same hockey sweatshirt constantly, essentially wearing a uniform every single day and rarely changing it up.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve really started to prefer things that are enjoyable and lighthearted. I like to have fun with fashion – it’s great! I love that fashion lets you express who you are, almost like a way to showcase your personality.

Chase consistently stands out on the red carpet by expertly blending her own unique fashion sense with the ability to transform into a completely new character.

She described red carpet appearances as a kind of performance, but emphasized the importance of staying true to herself and wearing what makes her feel comfortable. She genuinely enjoys dressing up, viewing events like red carpets as celebrations and opportunities to express herself through memorable and inspiring outfits.

For me, acting is all about becoming someone else and giving a great performance. I even approach red carpets as a chance to play a role – a fun character I can embody for the night to celebrate a special occasion.
