Do you guys ever think about Margot Robbie at the Met Gala?
Margot Robbie, star of Barbie, wowed fans at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 4th. Following the evening’s “Fashion Is Art” theme, she wore a stunning gold Chanel gown that turned heads. (See all the celebrity looks here.)
Oh my gosh, she just gets it, you know? Her style is so effortlessly chic. I noticed her hair was pulled back – a really sleek updo, not fussy at all – and then these gorgeous, delicate gold earrings! And a ring to match, of course. It was the perfect amount of sparkle, not overdone. Seriously, everything about her look is just… perfect. I’ve been screenshotting everything, obviously.
Margot Robbie, who attended the event without her husband Tom Ackerley, is known for choosing outfits that match the event’s theme. This year’s theme is “Costume Art.” She was a major force behind the “Barbiecore” trend in 2023, dressing like the iconic Barbie doll while promoting the Barbie movie.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE the work she and Andrew Mukamal put into this! They seriously went deep into the Barbie archives at Mattel – like, every single iconic look Barbie’s ever worn! They were pulling inspiration from everything, and it’s just…perfect. It’s like a Barbie history lesson brought to life!
Margot explained that the movie includes nods to Barbie dolls from previous decades, specifically for dedicated collectors. During the film’s promotion, she showcased designs from brands like Chanel, Valentino, and Versace, and highlighted how these looks were combined with references to classic Barbie dolls.
Andrew joked that they had a detailed plan for every city, complete with a specific visual style in mind.

He explained they were very precise with the costumes, Barbie dolls, and historical details for each location. He jokingly added that people would be amazed by how much he managed to pack into his luggage.
When Wuthering Heights came out earlier this year, Margot fully committed to the role once more. She worked with stylist Andrew to create a press tour look inspired by the dark, Victorian style of the Emily Brontë adaptation.
She told Variety that her Schiaparelli gown—with its corset and skirt that faded from black to red—was inspired by Wuthering Heights. She explained they’d asked themselves, ‘If we were designing a dress based on Wuthering Heights, what would it look like?’ during the film’s February premiere.
Margot explained that the design was meant to look like color was being absorbed into the floor – a red, glossy surface – and then gradually rising up into the dress itself.
