Paramount Pictures has announced that Longlegs 2 will be released on January 14, 2028—approximately four years after the original film came out. This news follows reports from April. The writer and director of the first movie, Perkins, is returning for the sequel, and Nicolas Cage will also reprise his role. However, Longlegs 2 won’t be a direct continuation of the first story; it’s described as a new film set within the same universe. Details about the plot are currently unknown.
Will The Sequel Be Scarier Than Part One?
The movie Longlegs was promoted with a bold claim: it was “the scariest film of the decade.” Interestingly, the marketing campaign never revealed what the killer, played by Nicolas Cage, looked like. Fans had to see the movie to find out! This strategy likely contributed to the film’s success, earning $128 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing independent film of the year and a financial high point for both the production companies, Neon and Osgood Perkins.
The psychological horror film It Follows features FBI agent Lee Harker investigating a string of horrifying family murders. The killer, known as “Longlegs,” commits the crimes remotely, seemingly connected to the victims in a strange and unseen way. As Harker delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a shocking personal connection and realizes it’s far more than a simple serial killer investigation.
The film features Monroe, Cage, and Blair Underwood (known from L.A. Law), alongside Alicia Witt (Twin Peaks), Dakota Daulby (The Last Victim), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Peter Bryant (Family Law).

Viewers and critics generally responded very positively to Longlegs. It started with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and ended with a still-impressive 85% approval rating. Many critics considered it one of the most frightening films released that year, and Nicolas Cage’s performance as the killer was widely praised as a highlight.
