Spotted: Blake Lively finding some much-needed help on the Upper East Side.
When the former Gossip Girl star unexpectedly arrived at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4th, wearing a flowing Versace dress, she received a little help climbing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from a beloved family member.
On May 5th, Blake Lively shared a photo on Instagram of her cousin, William McAlpin, holding up the long train of her dress, and wrote, “My sweet angel gorgeous cousin.”
The “Fashion Is Art” theme brought some unforgettable looks, including one from the 38-year-old who arrived in a vibrant, crystal-covered ballgown. The gown’s skirt featured designs inspired by Venetian Rococo art, and it was so large she needed four people to help her climb the stairs. (Check out all the celebrity looks from the Met Gala here.)
Blake wasn’t just thinking about her brother William during the major fashion event. She also honored her and Ryan Reynolds’ four children – James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6, and Olin, 3 – with a unique purse.
As a designer, I’m always looking for ways to blend art and fashion. I recently told Vogue about a Judith Leiber clutch I created – the idea was to take a really famous, iconic artwork and present it as if it were framed, but on a handbag. It’s about turning a piece of art into a wearable statement!
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I was talking to them, and I just had to ask if they could possibly use my kids’ artwork for a custom piece. My four little artists each painted a watercolor – can you imagine?! It was so special seeing them create those, and now I have them all with me, and the thought of their art being part of something amazing just… it makes my heart burst!
Blake, appearing publicly after announcing a settlement in her year-long legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni, shared that the accessory she wore helped her feel strong at the event.
She admitted she was also shy and felt more comfortable with her children nearby. She jokingly added that she could have even hidden them under her dress.
Once the night was over, Blake shared her thoughts on the custom Easter egg bag, explaining on Instagram that having artwork from all of her children on it was “a dream come true and a source of great comfort.”
