Recently, we’ve seen a lot of exciting and successful original horror movies. It’s not surprising that many of these are now getting sequels or spin-offs to capitalize on that success.
There’s been news about two upcoming horror projects: a prequel to the film Weapons centering on the popular villain Aunt Gladys (played by Amy Madigan, who received Oscar-winning praise), and a sequel to Oz Perkins’s successful 2024 film Longlegs.
The new movie starring Nicolas Cage as the serial killer is officially scheduled to hit theaters on January 14, 2028. The film’s title hasn’t been announced yet.

Perkins is returning to write and direct the film, but details about the story and who else will be in it haven’t been released yet.
It’ll be fascinating to see where the story goes after what happened to Longlegs in the first movie. Will the next film be a prequel showing what happened before, or will Longlegs somehow come back? Considering his deal with the devil, anything is possible!
The first movie was a huge hit, earning $128 million around the world despite costing only $10 million to make. It also received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with some critics even calling it a masterpiece.
In our review, we gave the film four stars and highlighted its skillful construction. We especially appreciated how it gradually created a sense of unease and a deeply unsettling atmosphere that stays with you.
While not every story choice lands perfectly, Longlegs is ultimately a successful and frightening look at the essence of evil.
Since his successful film Longlegs came out two years ago, Perkins has made two more movies—an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey and the folk horror film Keeper. However, neither of these has received the same positive attention.
Everyone is hoping the new film will be genuinely scary, like the previous one featuring Cage’s frightening character. We’ll be watching for more news about it.
The Longlegs sequel will be released on 14 January 2028.
