Atomic Heart 2, The Cube Developer Isn’t Integrating Generative AI in its Tools

Nvidia’s presentation of DLSS 5 a few months ago generated a lot of interest, and developers have been fielding questions about it ever since. Mundfish, the studio creating games like Atomic Heart, Atomic Heart 2, and The Cube, recently shared their thoughts with WCCFTech. They described the technology as “highly promising,” but stated they will “carefully evaluate” whether to implement it in their games.

Robert Bagratuni, director of Atomic Heart and CEO of Mundfish, stated that his team is closely watching the development of DLSS 5, a new and exciting technology. As a studio known for striving for impressive graphics, they’ll be carefully considering how DLSS 5 and similar advancements could improve the experience for their players.

Bagratuni also addressed the debate around using AI to create games. He noted that while AI can make the early stages of game development easier, Mundfish currently has no plans to use these tools in their projects.

I’ve been following the debate around AI in creative work, and it’s definitely a hot topic! From what I understand, these tools can really speed up the early stages of a project, letting artists try out more ideas and finish things faster. Apparently, the team has been doing a lot of testing to see if AI could work for them. But, as of right now, they’ve decided not to use it in their regular workflow. It’s a shame, but I respect their decision to stick with what works best for them at the moment.

We believe it’s important to strike a balance between technology and human creativity. While we recognize the benefits of AI, we’re confident our team can thrive without using it constantly. However, we’re keeping a close eye on how AI develops and might consider using it down the line. We expect many companies will eventually integrate AI into their work, but it’s important to remember that AI is simply a tool to help creative people – it shouldn’t replace them.

Mundfish has finished the story of Atomic Heart with the release of the Blood on Crystal DLC. They’re also developing a proper sequel to Atomic Heart, and a new online shooter called The Cube set in the same world.

The sequel to Atomic Heart, titled Atomic Heart 2, was officially announced in June 2025 and will be released on both PC and consoles. Although a specific release date hasn’t been announced, developer Mundfish has confirmed the game is being built with Unreal Engine 5. The story will be entirely new and set around the world, and players can expect to see Agent P-3, the main character from the first Atomic Heart, return in some form.

Bagratuni discussed how Atomic Heart 2 will feature more robust RPG elements, including more detailed skill trees with greater player choice. These systems won’t just add complexity; they’ll be seamlessly woven into the game’s world and overall experience.

Mundfish hasn’t shared many specifics about The Cube yet, but they’ve given some clues through the Atomic Heart: Blood on Crystal story. The expansion will focus on a mysterious floating structure called The Cube that appears out of nowhere and causes a lot of trouble.
