An American Idol reunion? It’s a yes from Randy Jackson, dawg.
The original judge recently appeared on television, returning to the singing competition to advise five contestants – Hannah Harper, Jordan McCullough, Keyla Richardson, Braden Rumfelt, and Chris Tungseth – as part of a special episode celebrating the show’s past participants from 2006.
Randy said to Chris, ‘When I was a judge on this show years ago, I always asked contestants if their goal was to win.’
Originally from Minnesota, Chris was excited to learn from the experienced musician. He admitted, “I watched American Idol growing up, so I’m a big fan. I really admire you.”
Randy, age 69, wasn’t the only one from American Idol to return for the special night. Paula Abdul, who was also a judge, joined him, along with former contestants like Kellie Pickler, Elliott Yamin, Paris Bennett, Bucky Covington, and Taylor Hicks, the winner of season five.
Paula said she was thrilled to be back at the original Idol studio, and excited to see former contestants who’ve started families, as well as meet the new singers hoping to make it big. She was speaking to current judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood, who herself won the show back in 2005.
She added to the cast, “I hope all of you have the best time ever and leave your heart out there.”

A lot has happened since Randy and Paula, both 63, were judges with Simon Cowell. Notably, Randy has lost over 114 pounds by making positive changes to his lifestyle.
I’ve been on TV for years and people have commented on my weight, which I struggled with for a long time,” he explained to People magazine in 2020. “I eventually lost the weight, but it took some extreme methods.
This involved having gastric bypass surgery in 2003, getting help from fitness trainers, completely changing his eating habits, and working with therapists.

Randy explained that when he craves something sweet, he allows himself a small treat. He believes completely denying himself only leads to overindulging later, like eating a large amount of candy all at once. He says giving in a little prevents a bigger binge.
He explained that you need to completely rethink your relationship with food. It’s like starting over from scratch, gradually reintroducing foods to see how your body responds.

Kelly Clarkson, mother to River and Remy, has achieved incredible success since first appearing on American Idol in 2002. Based in New York, she’s won three Grammy Awards, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart three times, served as a judge on NBC’s The Voice, and is now wrapping up the final season of her Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The runner-up from season two of the show publicly came out in September 2008, explaining that the birth of his son, Parker, with close friend and music producer Jaymes Foster, was a major reason. He told Good Morning America that he didn’t want to raise his son to hide who he was or live a lie. He also wanted to create a supportive environment where his son could be himself, no matter what.
Since then, this well-known performer has transitioned from music to politics, even running for Congress in 2016. After the election, he released a documentary about his life. Despite his other pursuits, he hasn’t completely abandoned music, recently touring with season two winner Ruben Studdard in 2023 and 2024.

Ruben, the winner of season two of Idol, went on to achieve success with a Grammy nomination and several hit albums. In 2013, he appeared as a contestant on The Biggest Loser, quickly becoming popular with viewers. Though eliminated twice, he learned a lot from the experience. Despite remaining close friends with Clay, Ruben found lasting love with his wife, Kristin, and they welcomed their second child in 2024.

The season three champion recently expressed gratitude for her entire career path. In a December 2023 interview with TopMob News, she explained that success comes with challenges, saying, “You fall, you get back up.” Despite facing difficult times – including twice rebuilding her life – she feels a strong sense of accomplishment.
Beyond her professional achievements, she’s also experienced personal joy, welcoming daughter Keziah with husband Kendall Taylor in 2021, and receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her role in The Color Purple remake. The North Carolina native, who is also a mother to adult daughter Zion, shared that she wants to savor this moment and appreciate all the hard work she put in to get here.

Although she didn’t win season three of the competition, this musician has achieved incredible success! She won an Oscar for Dreamgirls in 2006 and a Grammy for her work in the 2017 adaptation of The Color Purple. She’s also been a judge on The Voice. Most recently, this mom to son David launched her own talk show.

Carrie Underwood instantly became a pop culture icon when she appeared on Idol. She not only won season four, but has since become one of country music’s biggest stars.
For over a decade, she also co-hosted the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. In addition to her successful music career and hosting duties, Carrie is a mother to two sons with her husband, retired hockey player Mike Fisher.
Carrie Underwood will be joining the judging panel of American Idol in 2024, taking over for Katy Perry.

The former American Idol runner-up is now married with four children – three sons and a daughter. Even after battling significant health issues in 2006, he’s continued to release several successful albums.

Constantine, known for his powerful voice and memorable performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” on season four of a singing competition, transitioned seamlessly to Broadway, earning a Tony nomination for his role in Rock of Ages. The father of Malena, born in 2010, continued his stage career with a starring role in the 2023 production of Rock & Roll Man.

Following his win on season five, the singer released a platinum-selling album and appeared in a Broadway production of Grease. In 2016, he transitioned to television, hosting State-Plate, a show centered around locally sourced food. Despite his TV work, he still loves music and continues to perform in concerts.

Before Justin Bieber captured the hearts of millions, Katharine McPhee gained attention through what some called “McPheever,” which launched her career in both singing and acting. She’s best known for her roles in the musical drama Smash and the series Scorpion.
Married to music producer David Foster since 2019, Katharine is now a mother to her son, Rennie, who shows a natural talent for music. In a 2023 interview, she shared her hope that Rennie will become proficient in playing many instruments, just like his father. However, she emphasized that they are letting him explore his interests without pressure, simply encouraging his musical development.

Following his appearance on American Idol, season five finalist Elliott Yamin, known for his hit song “Wait for You,” traveled to Angola. There, he teamed up with former Idol judge Kara DioGuardi to promote Malaria No More. In 2010, he gained attention for surviving the earthquake in Chile and sharing his experience on Twitter. Yamin continues to make music and is a father to Camilla, with Karen Cruz.

Oh my gosh, Kellie Pickler is just amazing! Even though she didn’t win American Idol (season five, she came in sixth, can you believe it?!), she’s been SO successful! She was in that Christmas in Graceland movie, which I watch every year, and her show Pickler & Ben was nominated for THREE Daytime Emmys! But honestly, what really gets me is how she’s handled everything after losing her husband, Kyle Jacobs. It was so heartbreaking when he passed away. She told People magazine that Kyle taught her that when things fall apart, sometimes the best thing to do is just… be still. And she’s really taken that to heart, and I admire her so much for it. It’s just… wow. She’s incredible.

The winner of season six made a big impact in 2007 as the youngest female to ever win. She toured 35 U.S. cities with her show and even made her Broadway debut in the 2010 production of In the Heights. Her success continued, and in May 2018, she welcomed her first son with Dana Isaiah. Since then, she’s returned to Idol and competed on season 31 of Dancing With the Stars.

David, the season seven winner known for his hit song “Time of My Life,” has experienced success both on and off stage. In 2010, he traveled to Ethiopia with the United Nations to support their work empowering women. He also participated in the Race for Hope in Washington D.C., raising money for brain cancer research in memory of his brother, Adam, who passed away in 2009. Since marrying Racheal Stump in 2015, David continues to tour and released his latest single, “TABOS,” in 2022.

After placing second on season seven of the show, the singer spent two years serving a mission in Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He resumed performing after returning in 2014.
He publicly came out as LGBTQ+ in June 2021. In an October 2023 Instagram post, he shared, “It’s been a beautiful journey learning to accept myself,” and expressed hope that living authentically would inspire others to do the same.

While Adam Lambert received a lot of attention as the runner-up, season eight winner David Cook has steadily built a successful career. His second album, released in November 2009, reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart, and his song “I Need to Know” was used in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. He’s also been busy growing his family, welcoming three children with his wife, Katy O’Connell.

The runner-up from the eighth season of the show has become incredibly successful, arguably winning the publicity game. Since appearing on the competition, he’s released multiple albums, toured extensively, and earned numerous award nominations. He’s even followed in the footsteps of Freddie Mercury by becoming the lead singer for Queen and starred in a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He also briefly served as a guest judge on Idol and kicked off the 2019 Oscars with a performance of Queen’s iconic songs, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”

Danny Gokey married Leyicet Peralta in 2012, following his appearance on season eight of American Idol. They now have four children together.
Danny Gokey, a three-time Grammy nominee, released the Christian music album Jesus People in 2021. He’s also the founder of Danny Gokey Eyewear, a brand specializing in glasses.

Following his appearance as a top 10 finalist on the 2010 summer tour, the season nine winner began his career as a solo musician. He married model and actress Jonna Walsh in 2012, after meeting her while filming the music video for his first song after Idol. Today, he’s a successful singer-songwriter, and his music has even been featured in popular TV shows like The Walking Dead.

The singer, who finished as a runner-up on season nine of a singing competition, married musician Brian Walker and released her debut album, Farmer’s Daughter, in December 2010. Although she lost her record deal when RCA closed down several of its labels, she later began acting, appearing on the second season of ABC’s Body of Proof.
In May 2013, she and her husband separated. Following their divorce, she told The Boot that her second album, All That For This, represented a new phase in her life.

Oh my gosh, I was so excited when Scotty McCreery won Season 10! He was the first winner since Ruben Studdard to have a number one album – Clear as Day went straight to the top of the Billboard 200, can you believe it?! And 2011 was his year – New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards, and he even sang the national anthem at the World Series! I’ve been following his life ever since, and I was thrilled when he finally married his longtime girlfriend, Gabi Dugal, back in June 2018. And then, the best news – they had a little boy, Avery, in October 2022! I’m seriously the happiest fan ever!

Though she placed second on the show, this country singer quickly signed a record deal and released her first album, Wildflower, in October 2011. After appearing on Idol, she shared the stage with the winner at the CMT Music Awards, made her debut performance at the Grand Ole Opry, and even performed alongside Martina McBride at the CMA Music Festival.
In 2017, she received her first CMA nomination for Best New Artist thanks to the success of her album, Road Less Traveled. She also branched out into acting, starring in a film with the same title.
More recently, the singer, known for the song “Thicc As Thieves,” announced her engagement to Cam Arnold while performing at the Grand Ole Opry in November 2022. They were married in February 2024.

Though he only placed sixth on season ten of the show, he quickly became a fan favorite. He joined the Idols Live tour and even recorded a duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with fellow contestant Haley Reinhart, with whom he was rumored to be romantically involved. Eventually, he signed with the jazz label Concord. He released his first self-titled album in 2012, followed by I Put A Spell On You in 2018 and Jazz in 2019.

Jimmie Allen was eliminated from American Idol before the live shows in season 10, but he’s since become a successful country artist with two number-one hits: “Best Shot” (2018) and “Make Me Want To.” He also won the Country Music Association Award for New Artist of the Year in 2021.
In April 2023, Jimmie and his wife, Alexis Allen, announced they were expecting their third child while simultaneously ending their two-year marriage. Shortly after, his former manager filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and abuse. Jimmie admitted to having an affair and publicly apologized to Alexis for the pain he caused, but denied the allegations of misconduct, claiming his relationship with his former manager was consensual.
After welcoming their son, Cohen Ace James, in September, the couple announced they were working to reconcile their marriage.

Following his win on season 11, the musician quickly gained popularity with his single “Home,” which was also used as the theme song for NBC’s 2012 Summer Olympics coverage.
In 2015, he married Hannah Blackwell in a private ceremony with loved ones. They later had a son named Patch in 2019.

The singer hinted to TopMob News before releasing her 2019 album, Whirlwind, that it features a wide variety of musical styles. She explained that, a year after winning Idol, she couldn’t choose just one sound for the album because she enjoyed experimenting with many different approaches.

After finishing as a finalist on season 16 of the show, the singer has been busy making music and taking advantage of the opportunities that came with being on ABC. Caleb Lee told TopMob News that he’s always been passionate about music and becoming an artist, but the show taught him a lot about the entertainment industry. He even had the chance to join Luke Bryan on stage during Bryan’s final tour performance. Caleb released his latest album, Southern Galactic, in October 2023.

Following her third-place finish on season 16 of Idol, singer Gabby Barrett dedicated herself to completing her album. She expressed her excitement about performing at Stagecoach and called touring with Brad Paisley a fantastic bonus. “It’s amazing to be touring with him,” she told TopMob News.
Nearly two years after welcoming their daughter Baylah with her husband Cade Foehner, the couple had their son, Augustine, in October 2022. They expanded their family again in February 2024 with the arrival of their third child.
