As a lifelong fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I’m always amazed by how well they’ve done in pretty much everything – comics, movies, cartoons, video games, you name it! It’s rare for any franchise to be successful across so many platforms. But what really impressed me was IDW Publishing’s comic run, which lasted an incredible 150 issues. It all started with their 2011 TMNT series, and it’s become one of the most beloved versions of the Turtles ever. Now, they’ve announced a fantastic way for new fans to discover it, and I’ve got all the details right here!
If you’re new to the series or have missed parts of the long run, IDW now offers a convenient way to catch up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ongoing Compendium, Vol. 1. This is the first of three collections, each gathering 50 issues. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer Tom Waltz recently explained to ComicBook what makes these Compendiums special and shared his initial vision for the series before it became so popular.

When the TMNT comic series began at IDW in 2011, I was hoping we’d last at least a year. Thankfully, we far exceeded that! Now, after 15 years, IDW is releasing three large collections – each containing 50 issues – that cover the entire 150-issue run of the original series. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and it’s amazing to see the foundational stories we created continue to influence the current TMNT creators at IDW. These collections are perfect for new readers and a great way for our longtime, loyal fans to revisit the series that made it all possible. Turtle Power!
What Is Included In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ongoing Compendium, Vol. 1

The 2011 run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics was known for its fantastic stories, spanning 150 issues. A key reason for its success was the incredible team of creators behind it. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman initially developed story ideas with Waltz, and later with Sophie Campbell, who joined the series with issue #101. The artwork was equally impressive, thanks to talented artists like Dan Duncan, Andy Kuhn, Ben Bates, Mateus Santolouco, Cory Smith, and others.
The TMNT Compendium Vol. 1 kicks off the Turtles’ story with Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Splinter searching for Raphael throughout New York City. These early issues also reveal a fresh take on how the Turtles came to be, and you can expect to see all the classic villains and allies over the first 50 issues.
Compendium Vol. 1 collects several key storylines, including “Krang War,” “City Fall,” “Northampton,” “Attack on Technodrome,” and the concluding arc, “Vengeance.” It’s packed with stories – just like Volumes 2 and 3, this collection boasts over 1000 pages of content.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ongoing Compendium, Vol. 1 retails for $59.99 and is available now.
