Doom’s Power Level in Avengers: Doomsday May Set Up Secret War’s Deadliest Moment (And It Would Annoy Fans)

Doctor Doom is set to be the most dangerous villain the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever faced in Avengers: Doomsday, making the way Marvel has introduced him rather unexpected. Despite being a legendary character in Marvel Comics, Doom has only briefly appeared in The Fantastic Four: First Steps before his main debut in Doomsday. This approach is largely because of the sudden change in plans, with Kang no longer being the central villain of the Multiverse Saga. However, it also highlights some intriguing aspects of how the MCU operates.

Thanos was the central villain throughout the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his portrayal made him a truly memorable antagonist. Now, Marvel seems to be aiming for the same level of impact with Doctor Doom, who will be the primary villain in upcoming movies like Doomsday and likely Secret Wars. However, unlike the comics, the MCU version of Doom won’t have a long-established, complex relationship with Reed Richards, which has disappointed many fans.

The MCU Has Taken The Opposite Approach To Thanos When It Comes To Introducing Doctor Doom

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been thinking about Doctor Doom and Thanos a lot, and it’s fascinating how similar and different they are. What really struck me is how Marvel introduced Thanos. They didn’t just drop him in with Infinity War; they teased him way back in the post-credits scene of The Avengers in 2012! Then, over the next few years, they kept mentioning him in movies like Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy. It was this slow burn, constantly reminding us he was out there, building him up into this massive threat, and it totally paid off when Infinity War finally arrived.

Unlike other villains, Doctor Doom isn’t being heavily promoted before his appearance. He’s only appeared briefly after the credits of a Fantastic Four movie, and didn’t even speak. We haven’t seen any hint of his plans, unlike Loki in The Avengers whose entire scheme served a larger purpose connected to Thanos. Despite being presented as a threat on the same level as Thanos, Doom isn’t receiving nearly the same level of introduction or setup.

The MCU seems to be holding back on fully revealing Doctor Doom, probably to make him a surprising villain for the Avengers in Doomsday. His plan likely involves time travel, which the Avengers wouldn’t be able to anticipate. Even with a warning from the Fantastic Four, Doom will likely catch the heroes off guard, creating a thrilling setup for Avengers: Doomsday.

Doctor Doom’s Power Level Could Be Perfectly Shown By Adapting This Comic Book Moment

To really surprise audiences, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could adapt a shocking moment from the 2015 comic event Secret Wars. In it, Thanos and his team try to defeat Doctor Doom, but repeatedly fail. Finally, a self-assured Thanos confronts Doom directly, ready for a one-on-one fight. However, Doom swiftly and effortlessly kills Thanos by ripping his spine out.

Okay, so we’re still a little in the dark about just how powerful Doctor Doom will be in Doomsday, but even if he’s not at his absolute peak, the fact that he can travel the multiverse tells me he’s going to be a serious force. Marvel’s already shown they’re willing to bring in different versions of Thanos from across timelines, and I’m betting we’ll see that happen in this movie. Honestly, having Doom take down a Thanos variant early on? That would be a huge statement. It would instantly establish him as a threat on a whole other level, far beyond anything Thanos ever posed. It would tell us, ‘Forget everything you thought you knew about power in the MCU.’

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m still thinking about Doom taking down Thanos in Secret Wars – it’s such a powerful image! A lot of us are really hoping to see that scene adapted for the movies. Even if it doesn’t drastically change the story of a potential Doomsday adaptation, it would instantly show us just how dangerous Doom is. Seriously, if he can defeat Thanos so casually, it makes you realize he could take on any of the Avengers without much trouble – and that’s a terrifying thought!
