5 Underrated RPGs You Might’ve Missed That You Need to Revisit ASAP

If you enjoy role-playing games, you’ve probably played the most popular ones – titles like The Witcher and Skyrim always get a lot of attention. This is true for new games too, with a few big RPGs dominating the conversation each year. It’s easy to find critically acclaimed games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but what about the fantastic RPGs that didn’t get as much recognition, especially when they were released around those huge, popular titles?

So far in 2026, we’ve seen some good new RPGs like Nioh 3 and Windrose. If you’re searching for something you might have missed, you’ve probably already played the most popular RPGs from recent years. That’s why we’ve put together a list of 5 fantastic, underrated RPGs worth revisiting. We’re focusing on games that are still easily playable on today’s platforms.

5) GreedFall

Price: $34.99

Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

This pick might surprise some people – it’s definitely a game that divides opinion. While many RPG fans think it’s a hidden gem, others feel it doesn’t live up to the buzz. Still, its ‘Mostly Positive’ rating on Steam shows that it resonated with a lot of players. It was popular enough, in fact, to warrant a sequel, the recently launched GreedFall: The Dying World.

If you’re looking for a story-rich RPG and don’t mind combat that isn’t perfectly polished, GreedFall could be a great choice. It’s set on a mysterious island filled with magic and unusual creatures, and your decisions will really shape the story as you play a character you can fully customize. Plus, if you like GreedFall, there’s another game called The Dying World coming out that you might enjoy.

4) Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong

Price: $29.99 for console, $49.99 for PC

Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch

When people talk about classic vampire role-playing games, Bloodlines is usually the first one mentioned. However, it’s not the only good Vampire: The Masquerade RPG available. The 2023 game, Vampire: The Masquerade: Swansong, didn’t receive the enthusiastic welcome you might expect for a new, story-focused RPG set in the World of Darkness. Its mixed reviews on Steam and from critics haven’t helped, but players who have tried it often consider it a hidden gem.

If you love the original Vampire: The Masquerade or enjoy story-focused RPGs with a detective theme and minimal combat, Swansong might be perfect for you. It captures the dark atmosphere of the World of Darkness and offers a captivating story where your decisions matter. The game’s character system and dice rolls stay true to tabletop RPGs, though they’ve proven somewhat controversial. If you’re unsure, it’s worth checking out when it’s on sale.

3) Tyranny

Price: $29.99

Platform(s): PC

Released in 2016 by Obsidian and Paradox Interactive, Tyranny is widely considered one of the best RPGs to explore the theme of evil. The game features meaningful choices that genuinely impact the world, even allowing players to fully embrace villainy. While it has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, it hasn’t received a huge number of reviews, suggesting it’s a hidden gem. Its availability only on PC likely contributes to its relatively low profile, despite being a strong and thought-provoking CRPG with a unique approach to morality.

If you like role-playing games where you play as the villain, especially computer RPGs with meaningful choices, you should definitely check out Tyranny. While the main game isn’t very long without the downloadable content, it’s a hidden gem. Players consistently praise its story, world, and how much you can replay it, even though it’s not perfect in terms of polish.

2) Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Price: $19.99

Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch

I’m revisiting a topic I feel strongly about: Pathfinder is a fantastic tabletop role-playing game system. The computer RPGs developed by Owlcat, set in the world of Golarion, don’t receive the recognition they deserve. Pathfinder: Kingmaker started things off in 2018, but Owlcat truly perfected their approach with Wrath of the Righteous in 2021. It has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with almost 18,000 reviews, so it’s not completely unknown. However, with its compelling story and detailed character customization—which really captures the spirit of Pathfinder—it still deserves more attention.

If you loved Baldur’s Gate 3, you should definitely check out Wrath of the Righteous. It’s a classic computer RPG with a similar style, but offers a fresh story and unique atmosphere. Your decisions truly matter, and you’ll meet a great group of companions as you work to save the world. Plus, the Standard Edition is an incredible value at only $20!

1) Drova: Forsaken Kin

Price: $24.99

Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox SeriesX|S, Nintendo Switch Mobile

This charming pixel art RPG, released in October 2024, is a hidden treasure. Inspired by Celtic myths and classic isometric RPGs, it deserves more attention than it’s received. Players who have discovered it consistently give it rave reviews – it boasts a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam and an 8.5 User Score on Metacritic, and for good reason!

If you’re like me and love those classic RPGs that don’t spoon-feed you everything, then Drova: Forsaken Kin is seriously one of the best I’ve played in a while. I’ve been really impressed with how challenging but satisfying the exploration is, and the character progression feels really solid. Plus, the story really pulled me in. It’s not perfect – there are a few things that could be better – but honestly, it’s a massively underrated RPG, especially if you’re into games with a darker, Gothic vibe. Definitely worth checking out!
