Jamie-Lynn Sigler Shares Update on Christina Applegate’s Health

Jamie-Lynn Sigler has been checking in with Christina Applegate.

Following reports that actress Christina Applegate had been hospitalized and after she mentioned dealing with ongoing health problems, a close friend recently shared details about her long-term struggle with multiple sclerosis.

Jamie-Lynn shared on the May 5th episode of Watch What Happens Live that she is pleased with the person’s progress, noting they are recovering and doing well, and that everyone loves them.

The actor, who also starred in The Sopranos, also mentioned that she has frequently been hospitalized for various health issues and has spoken about this openly.

Jamie-Lynn, who revealed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2016, shared how her podcast, MeSsy, with Christina, has been a supportive outlet for them to talk about their experiences with health challenges.

She said it was a chance for them to talk openly and honestly about their struggles. She explained that when you share specific details about what you’re going through, it can actually connect with others because everyone is simply doing their best.

After news spread in March that Christina had been hospitalized, the actress from Dead to Me expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she received.

She shared on Instagram on April 20th that she’s feeling strong and is committed to improving her health every day. She plans to take some time to focus on wellness and will share more updates in the future.

Since receiving a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, the 54-year-old has openly shared her journey, including the difficult times and hospital stays, as detailed in her recent memoir, You With the Sad Eyes.

She explained that when she wakes up, she often struggles to move her arm enough to reach for a glass of water or her phone. She says one of the most debilitating symptoms of her illness is extreme exhaustion, which feels like she hasn’t slept for days.

Despite struggling with chronic pain that often keeps her in bed, Christina continues to find the strength to manage daily tasks, such as driving her and her husband Martyn LeNoble’s 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school.

She told People magazine in February that she loves spending one-on-one time with her, saying, “It’s my favorite thing to do – it’s the only time we get alone together.”

Christina said she just focuses on getting her passenger to their destination safely and then returning home to rest. That’s all she needs to get through it.

Christina Applegate shared she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021.

I wanted to share that I was diagnosed with MS a few months ago,” she posted on social media last August. “It’s been a really challenging experience, but I’ve found a lot of support from others who understand what I’m going through. It hasn’t been easy, but life goes on – unless someone gets in the way!

You know, when I received my MS diagnosis, it was a bit of a shock, but I try to keep a sense of humor about it. At my Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last November – my first time really being out in public since learning about it – I actually joked about it. I said, ‘Did you not notice? I’m not even wearing shoes!’ It’s my way of saying, ‘Hey, life throws curveballs, but we can still find joy and keep moving forward, even if it means ditching the heels!’

Christina believes her MS journey actually began “six or seven years” before her 2021 diagnosis.

Christina Applegate first noticed something was wrong while filming the first season of Dead to Me. She described how her leg would sometimes give way during shooting, but she initially dismissed it as fatigue, dehydration, or the weather. She didn’t think much of it when the issue would disappear for months.

The actress revealed that by the time they were filming the last season of the Netflix series, she needed a wheelchair to get around on set.

“I couldn’t move that far,” she recalled, “so I had to tell everybody because I needed help.”

Christina Applegate, known for her role in Dead to Me, shared a photo of her collection of walking sticks, explaining that they’ve become a regular part of her life as she lives with multiple sclerosis.

At the 2023 SAG Awards, Christina delivered a powerful message to multiple sclerosis, accompanied by her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble: “F U MS.”

Christina shared that her daughter, Sadie, had a difficult time processing her illness. Speaking with Jamie-Lynn Sigler on their podcast MeSsy in August 2025, Christina explained that Sadie had only known her as healthy and active – a runner, Peloton enthusiast, and dancer. When Christina became ill in 2021, Sadie reacted with remarkable stoicism.

It’s like… she just looks at me, even when I’m trying to sleep. I swear I catch her gaze, and then I’m completely frozen! I desperately want to go say goodnight, just walk down the hall to her room, but my legs just… won’t cooperate. It’s so frustrating, I’m just stuck there, unable to move. It happens all the time, and it’s completely consuming me.

Christina believes the ordeal has deeply affected her teenage daughter. She explained it felt like her daughter lost the mother she knew, replaced by this difficult situation, and that the pain has only grown as her daughter has gotten older.

After getting a standing ovation at the 2023 Emmys, the former star of Married…With Children joked, “You’re making me feel bad about my disability by all standing up!”

Christina explained on the March 2024 episode of Armchair Expert that making jokes is how she copes with her health condition. She said if she didn’t use humor, she wouldn’t be able to handle things and it would be overwhelming.

So, yes, she’s going to talk about the fact that she’s already purchased burial plots.

On a March 2026 episode of NPR’s Wild Card, Christina shared that she and a friend were planning a picnic there, describing the location as ‘really pretty.’ She just needs to find the perfect tree – one that provides enough shade so her guests don’t get too hot.

I was really touched when I heard her share on Armchair Expert that she has 30 lesions in her brain. She explained that the largest one is located right behind her right eye, and that’s been causing her a lot of pain. It’s so brave of her to be open about everything.

According to the Multiple Sclerosis Trust, multiple sclerosis happens when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers.

Christina hasn’t held back when it comes to sharing her journey.

Speaking with Jimmy Kimmel, actress Christina Applegate candidly shared her difficulties living with multiple sclerosis. She admitted it’s been really tough, saying, ‘I don’t think anyone with MS would say this is a good thing to happen.’

She also used this approach when she spoke about her 2008 breast cancer experience. On the Armchair Expert podcast, she recalled presenting a cheerful face, saying things like, ‘I love my new breasts,’ even though they were scarred and damaged. Looking back, she realized it was all a pretense. ‘I was trying to convince myself of something,’ she admitted, ‘and I don’t think it helped anyone.’

Despite publicly appearing successful – she even started a foundation and raised a lot of money for women’s health screenings – she privately struggled. Looking back, she wishes she had been honest about the emotional toll it took, admitting she often cried herself to sleep.

In a March 2024 interview with Good Morning America, Christina described living with the disease as “living in hell.”

She hopes she’ll eventually feel more capable, but right now she’s mostly staying home to cope. She’s finding things difficult and just doesn’t want to go out.

Christina Applegate said her Sweetest Thing co-star, Selma Blair, who received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, encouraged her to get tested for the condition.

I’ll never forget when Christina shared her story on GMA. She told me that a friend insisted she get tested for Multiple Sclerosis, and she’s so grateful she did. She said if that friend hadn’t pushed her, things could have been so much more serious. It really stuck with me how important it is to look out for each other and encourage people to get checked when something doesn’t feel right.

Christina Applegate has indicated that her role in Dead to Me will probably be her final acting performance. In an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2023, she stated she doesn’t foresee herself returning to a film or television set anytime soon.

I likely won’t be doing on-camera work anymore, but I’m incredibly happy I had the chance to work with Linda Cardellini, who is not only the most talented actress I’ve ever collaborated with, but also one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever met.
