Stranger Than Heaven Has Players Creating Compositions, Scouting Talent, and Putting on Performances

So far, Stranger Than Heaven has been a game about exploring, fighting, and playing mini-games. But, like many Japanese games, a key part of it is actually putting on a good show and entertaining people.

Makoto, the main character, is really good at noticing music all around him – in things like snoring, barking dogs, or even trains, as the game’s director explains. He uses these everyday sounds as inspiration for his songs, collaborating with different composers to bring them to life. Later in the game, Makoto becomes a performer and takes on the role of booking and managing musicians, planning concerts from the overall structure to the specific songs played.

Once he’s finished promoting the show with posters, he’ll be able to watch it. In addition to the musicians performing, he’ll meet notable singers portrayed by actual artists, like Takashi (played by Satoshi Fujihara), who considers Makoto his older brother. He’ll also encounter Suzy, played by Tori Kelley, who contributed to writing the game’s theme song.

While characters beyond Makoto and Yu, such as Ado, aren’t explored in great depth, they all feel realistically flawed and have their own aspirations. The biggest challenge now is securing a performance from Orpheus, portrayed by Snoop Dogg – fingers crossed that happens!

Get ready for Stranger Than Heaven this winter on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC! It will be available on Xbox Game Pass starting day one, and with Xbox Play Anywhere, you can play it on both your console and PC.
