Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, has voiced his frustration with the long wait for a new BioShock game. The popular franchise, published by 2K Games, hasn’t had a new main installment since 2013’s BioShock Infinite, and has been on hold for over a decade. While a new game, often referred to by fans as BioShock 4, is currently in development, Zelnick has stated he’s unhappy with some of the choices that led to such a long gap between releases.
In a recent interview with Game File, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the lengthy development of BioShock 4. He explained that it was challenging for both Take-Two and the game’s developer, Cloud Chamber, to land on the right vision for the next BioShock game. This led to wasted time and resources, as problems with earlier ideas weren’t discovered until much later in development.
Looking back, choosing the right creative direction was more difficult than we expected,” he admitted. “We ended up spending a lot of time and money pursuing ideas that didn’t work out.

Even with the challenges they’ve faced, Strauss Zelnick shared his optimism about the current state of BioShock 4. He highlighted their decision last year to bring on Rod Fergusson, a veteran gaming producer, as the new head of the BioShock franchise, explaining that this move will not only help finish BioShock 4 but also strengthen the series for years to come.
We’re happy with how the game is currently, but we’re determined to make it even better,” Zelnick said. “We’re collaborating with the studio’s leaders to figure out how to achieve that.
2K Games and Cloud Chamber haven’t revealed anything about BioShock 4 yet, even though development started in 2019. We’re hoping to get an official reveal before the end of 2026, and we’ll share any news with you here on ComicBook as soon as we have it.
