Wuthering Heights and The Capture stars join confirmed for ITV’s “propulsive” new space thriller

ITV is revealing more and more of the cast for its new space thriller, First Woman, and fans are really looking forward to it.

Andrea Riseborough will star as Claire Reith, a biologist who makes history as the first woman to walk on the moon. She’s there to conduct an important new research project, which will be the focus of this six-part series.

When an astronaut goes missing, fingers point to her colleagues and a competing Chinese space station. Her husband, Ben (Ashley Walters), must race against the vast distance of space to find out what really happened to her.

I was really excited to hear more about the cast of this thriller! We already knew about Rebecca Riseborough and Ashley Walters, but last week brought confirmation that Alex Hassell, who I loved in Rivals, and Jennifer Ehle, famous for her role in Pride & Prejudice, are joining the project too. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic ensemble!

The cast list for the series just got bigger with some well-known actors joining! Jimmy Akingbola (known for ‘The Tower’), Fra Fee (‘Unchosen’), Kathryn Gallagher (‘Woman of the Hour’), Shazad Latif (‘Wuthering Heights’), Christian Ochoa Lavernia (‘In the Grey’), and Ben Miles (‘The Capture’) are all now part of the project.

Akingbola stars as Dr. Henry Evans, the astronaut responsible for the moon base’s life-sustaining nuclear reactor. Fee plays Dr. Declan McAllister, a confident astronaut whose strong personality often clashes with Claire, played by Riseborough.

Kerrigan Gallagher will play Lucy Miller, a past NASA astronaut currently working at Mission Control. Javier Lavernia is cast as Gabriel Ross, the leader of the lunar mission, and Shazad Latif will portray Inesh Vidhani, the wealthy financier funding the space program.

Miles, known for his role in The Crown, will play Peter Talbot, the director of the mission. Talbot is a former astronaut who now leads the team at Mission Control.

This new series sounds incredibly promising! It’s a thrilling combination of science fiction and a classic mystery – we’re definitely hooked. The story jumps between Earth-based mission control and the moon, creating a high-stakes race against time. The remaining astronauts are under intense pressure, and one man desperately hopes to be reunited with his wife, leading to the question: how well do we really know the people we love?

Described as having a grand, movie-like scope, “First Woman” will be produced by Julia Stannard, known for her work on “The Bombing of Pan Am 103” and “Trigger Point,” and directed by Philip Martin, who has worked on “Scoop” and “The Crown.”

Filming has begun in Belfast, but we don’t have a release date yet. Stay tuned for updates!
