Project Helix’s Ray Tracing is “An Order of Magnitude” Beyond Xbox Series X/S, Says Microsoft

Okay, so it’s looking like Xbox is really stepping up its game! We’re finally getting some real info on Project Helix, and Jason Ronald, a big shot over at Xbox’s next-gen team, has been sharing details about how they’re building the new console to deliver some awesome gaming experiences. It sounds like they’re serious about the future!

This new system offers a substantial performance boost, delivering improvements in speed, efficiency, and visual quality thanks to its custom AMD processor. This processor should reduce bottlenecks and allow the graphics card to work more effectively. Ray tracing, a technology that creates realistic lighting, will also see a major upgrade with improved features for both ray tracing and path tracing. The developers claim this will result in ray tracing performance ten times better than what’s currently achievable on the Xbox Series X and S.

Rendering and upscaling are key to how well games run these days, and Helix is addressing this by adding AMD FSR technology. This will improve performance using next-generation machine learning and a feature called Multi Frame Generation. Developers are already testing these new software versions.

Look, how a game runs is super important, obviously, and we’ve been digging into that a lot with Project Helix. But there’s a whole lot more to share about it coming up – keep an eye out over the next few months, maybe even at the Xbox Games Showcase in June! I’ll be watching, and you should too.
