KJ Apa Seemingly Slams “Liar” Mr. Fantasy for Stealing His Image

KJ Apa has had enough of the fantasy.

After the singer Mr. Fantasy—who looks a lot like the actor from Riverdale—released a new music video with some of KJ’s friends, KJ publicly accused Mr. Fantasy of damaging his career and using his likeness without permission.

KJ, 28, posted a video on Instagram on May 7th with a strong message: she’s had enough. She stated she will no longer allow someone to try and destroy her life and career.

I’ve been dealing with something for a while now, honestly, and I didn’t even think it was worth mentioning until recently. But it’s really starting to affect my life and work, so I feel like I need to speak up. I don’t typically share personal stuff like this, but I have to, because it’s genuinely hurting me and impacting my career.

The actor calmly but firmly denied any connection to Mr. Fantasy, who many suspect is actually KJ in disguise, after Mr. Fantasy suggested there was one.

He explained that a new music video featured people he knows well, but was created by someone who has blatantly copied his style and appearance.

He seemed to be talking about the new music video by Mr. Fantasy for his song, “Do Me Right.” The video includes appearances by several of his well-known friends, including his Riverdale co-stars Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch.

Because of this, the Songbird actor felt that he had to speak out.

KJ expressed strong disapproval of someone profiting from their likeness, including using their tattoos. They stated they couldn’t stand by while this happened, fearing it would ruin everything they’d worked for.

He ended the video with a final, harsh message for Mr. Fantasy, challenging his claims of positivity and kindness. He directly accused Mr. Fantasy of dishonesty and theft, telling him to confront those qualities within himself.

KJ claims that Mr. Fantasy featuring his friends in a music video is only a small part of a larger problem. The 28-year-old believes the “Catapult” singer is actually harming his professional career.

Okay, so everyone knows who I’m talking about, and it’s just… it’s really messed up. I just lost this amazing job opportunity, a huge one, and now I can’t even pursue serious work anymore. Apparently, people think I’m a joke because of him. It’s completely unfair, and it’s all his fault!

He said he felt helpless except to bring the issue to light and do his best to defend himself, explaining that the action was deeply disrespectful and unacceptable.

Because of this, the Songbird actor felt that he had to speak out.

KJ expressed strong disapproval of someone profiting from their likeness, including tattoos, stating it’s unacceptable to build success by stealing another’s identity. They feel compelled to speak out because this person’s actions threaten everything KJ has worked for.

He ended the video with a final, harsh message for Mr. Fantasy, challenging his claims of positivity and kindness. He directly accused Mr. Fantasy of dishonesty and theft, telling him to acknowledge those traits in himself, and then concluding his statement.

TopMob News has reached out to Mr. Fantasy’s reps for comment but hasn’t heard back.

KJ received supportive comments from several celebrities, including Ashley Park, Lukas Gage, Taylor Lautner, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Madelyn Cline joined in the conversation, and Zoey Deutch, who was in the “Do It Right” music video, wrote a message saying she was very sorry she participated in the video, as she didn’t realize it would cause harm. She stated she won’t work with him again and apologized for her involvement, hoping for forgiveness.

Fans have often wondered if KJ Apa and the musician Mr. Fantasy are the same person, but the actor from The Hate U Give has stated he doesn’t know the artist very well.

KJ recently told Entertainment Tonight that he’s focused on his acting and isn’t familiar with the artist everyone’s been discussing. While he admits the music sounds good, he doesn’t know much about the person behind it.

He added with a laugh, “I don’t have any respect for him to be honest.”

In January 2024, Bobby (the second person from the left in the picture) spoke about rumors of a disagreement with Tan (in the middle). This came two months after Bobby announced he was leaving Queer Eye after being on the show for eight seasons.

He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they had a private matter to deal with, unrelated to their work on the show. It was a personal issue that had been building up, and he emphasized it wasn’t a romantic one.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Netflix and the production team held extensive auditions for the role. I didn’t recommend my friend for the part, but they ultimately got it because they were the most qualified. I also want to clarify that I didn’t help them get the job by having another actor removed from consideration, as he explained in an Instagram post.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that actor Topher Grace was the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a “rude, rude, rude, rude little boy” and a “dastardly little thing.”

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed upset during his 2014 appearance on The Talk because she had misspoken his name.

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this business?’ She said she responded with a fierce warning, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely destroy you.’ She finished by saying, ‘You have no idea what you’re up against.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok post, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d ever met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Cameron Bure publicly apologized, saying she unintentionally hurt Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and regretting not taking the picture. She expressed her sincere apologies to Siwa.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday films, she said it wouldn’t. She explained that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to an entire community.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed that Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without giving proper credit. Olivia responded with a message of support, saying “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, thanking Olivia and offering to share the contact information for her favorite florist in London, hinting she expected a thank-you note in return.

While on the show Watch What Happens Live, the actor from Happy Days explained why he and the star of Forrest Gump didn’t get along while filming the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch.

I directed the film for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, told me to pack up and go home, saying I had everything I needed.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Those who watched The Hills likely recall Lauren’s famous line from the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt. It escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and her then-boyfriend, Jason Wahler, alleging she’d made a sex tape.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out that started again in 2017. Tyrese criticized Dwayne on Instagram after the release of Fast & Furious 9 was delayed until April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne and Jason Statham, set in the Fast & Furious universe, was announced for 2019. A month later, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne remained involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the long-standing conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken directly to Johnson, though he hopes to. He did mention having a conversation with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.

Honestly, I’ve been hearing things from people involved with the franchise, and I foolishly ended up being the one to share those feelings publicly. It was totally my mistake, and I realize now it wasn’t the right thing to do – it just wasn’t professional or cool of me.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were famously feuding for years, and many believed their conflict inspired Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The disagreement, which supposedly began because of a shared backup dancer and rivalry during concert tours, ended when Katy sent Taylor an actual olive branch as a peace offering right before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared a video on Instagram explaining that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, and said it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and made some pointed remarks about her co-star.

Oh my god, I was riveted when Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker about Kim Cattrall saying they were just coworkers, not friends! It was on Watch What Happens Live back in September 2017, and I remember thinking, ‘Here it is! She’s finally going to address it!’ I was totally hanging on every word, desperate to know what SJP would say. It was such a tense moment, and I’ve rewatched that clip a million times!

She was deeply upset, saying she found a recent conversation really disturbing. It brought up a past experience she remembered differently than the other person, and she’d been talking about it with them all week because it had really bothered her.

It’s upsetting, but I believe what truly connects us is the shared experience we had. It started as a professional project, but over the years, it became deeply personal. I hope that those years of working on something special and building connections with people will ultimately outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously said, “Madonna, best live act? Absolutely not!” and questioned her use of lip-syncing, suggesting anyone who lip-syncs during a paid concert shouldn’t be allowed to perform.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to no longer be considered for an Emmy Award. She explained that she didn’t think the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine’s choice in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was a little hurtful, but not entirely unexpected. “When someone shows you their true colors, you should believe them,” Shonda explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s helped me a lot.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week became a major news story. A month later, Cardi explained what caused the argument with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had reportedly liked, and then quickly unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s skills as a mother – something Nicki claims she didn’t do.

I was set to earn a lot of money from my Bruno Mars tour, but I chose to stay home with my daughter instead,” Cardi explained. “I love my daughter, and I’m a really good mom. It’s frustrating when people without kids criticize my choices. People keep saying the party wasn’t the right place to see another artist, but I don’t expect to run into someone famous just anywhere – like at the grocery store or walking down the street.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 following the release of Kanye’s song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for the action, and Taylor Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German television interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously responded, “I don’t know her.”
