The cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds hints that season 5 will be a deeply emotional season, so much so that they were often moved to tears while filming. Paramount+ has announced that season 4 of the Star Trek prequel will premiere on July 23rd, and will be the show’s final season with the traditional 10-episode format.
I’m a little bummed to hear that season 5 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be the last, and it’s going to be short – only six episodes! Apparently, they finished filming right before Christmas 2025, and we’re looking at a 2027 premiere on Paramount+. It’ll come after the final season of Starfleet Academy. It sounds like this season will also be the end of Alex Kurtzman’s time as the main guy behind the scenes for Star Trek on Paramount+, which is a big change after ten years.
During CCXP Mexico, Collider’s Steven Weintraub interviewed Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley, who star in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Romijn hinted at a highly emotional final season, describing it as having “many, very, very, very emotional beats.” Gooding revealed she was moved to tears while reading the scripts for the last six episodes of the series.
Collider asked about reading the script for the series finale, noting it marked the end of an era. They were curious about the emotional impact of the script and what the experience of filming that final episode was like.
Rebecca Romijn feels the emotional impact wasn’t limited to just the final episode. She believes Season 5 as a whole did a fantastic job of concluding many character arcs, and was filled with deeply moving moments throughout.
Celia Rose Gooding: I think I cried at every end of the scripts for the season.
Rebecca Romijn: There were a lot of tears in almost every episode of that season.
I was thrilled to be a part of the show, especially since we got to make five whole seasons! It’s amazing.
Celia Rose Gooding: In the streaming era.
As a critic, I’ve followed ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ closely, and speaking with Ethan Peck, it’s clear how much reaching the end of Season 5 meant to him. He described a real feeling of accomplishment once filming wrapped – a genuine triumph. But it’s not just about the end; he sees this as something that will continue to resonate, both with audiences and with him personally, as a role he’ll cherish forever. It’s wonderful to see that kind of connection.
Rebecca Romijn says there’s no need to be sad about the show ending, as they still have two more amazing seasons coming up.
I really loved the finale script when I read it. It was a fantastic way to end such an incredible series, and the writing was just beautiful.

Paul Wesley is enthusiastic about the finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds because it features the transition of command from Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) to his character, Captain James T. Kirk. The final episode reportedly focuses on Kirk’s initial experience as captain of the Enterprise.
The cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recently shared with Collider their thoughts on the season finale’s guest stars: Thomas Jane, who played Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, and Kai Murakami as Hikaru Sulu. Celia Rose Gooding believes these additions of classic characters will greatly please fans. Paul Wesley agreed, describing both Jane and Murakami as “fantastic.”
Before its final season, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is gearing up for season 4, which the cast says is their strongest yet. They’ve teased a scary episode featuring Paul Wesley as Kirk, a Western-style adventure for Captain Pike, dinosaurs brought to life with help from a Jurassic Park puppeteer, and a unique episode where Pike and the crew are transformed into puppets.
The fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be the final new Star Trek series released on Paramount+ as part of the franchise’s 60th-anniversary celebration in 2026. Season five will conclude the decade-long run of Star Trek shows that began with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.
Despite knowing there will be many more episodes, the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds feels a lasting connection to their characters, as Ethan Peck put it, a connection that will last “forever.”
