The season 22 finale of Grey’s Anatomy said goodbye to two beloved actors who have been with the show for many years: Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd. The ending was particularly emotional for fans.
The actors who play Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy left the ABC medical drama after their characters, who had divorced, reunited and moved to Paris with their children to start a new life. Viewers saw a montage of their characters’ experiences throughout the series before their departure.
Raver shared with Deadline that she appreciated how, even amidst all the drama, her character Teddy still took the time to guide Blue while worrying about Owen’s situation.
She described playing the character as a wonderful and complex experience, a real gift to her as an actor.
Speaking about the season finale, McKidd – who also directed the episode – said he was very proud of it. He described it as a powerful and unique episode, particularly highlighting the ambitious bridge collapse scene.
He added that the episode was deeply moving, and he was particularly proud of that. Directing this, his 49th episode of the show, felt like a significant accomplishment and a culmination of everything he’d learned over the years – almost like graduating from a ‘Grey’s Anatomy film school.’ It marked the end of a chapter for him.

Kevin McKidd first played Dr. Owen Hunt on the show in 2008, starting with the fifth season. Kim Raver joined the cast as Dr. Teddy Altman in season six, the following year, and after leaving at the end of season eight, she returned for season fifteen.
The finale had a happy ending for Teddy and Owen, but things were touch-and-go for a while. Owen found himself in a dangerous situation after a large bridge in Seattle collapsed.
Teddy was terrified when a voicemail from Owen led him to be under a bridge just as it collapsed. Luckily, he was able to free himself from his car and even rescued a family trapped in theirs.
When Teddy and Owen were finally reunited, the pair professed their feelings for one another.
I was really touched when Owen encouraged Teddy to take that research position in Paris – and then said he and the kids would move with her! It was such a sweet and supportive gesture, and honestly, a really big deal for everyone involved.
