The Nintendo Switch 2 launched during a time of economic uncertainty, when other new consoles were becoming more expensive. However, the Switch 2 has maintained its original price, even as the PS5 and Xbox saw price increases. Unfortunately, that’s about to change – Nintendo will soon be raising prices on the Switch 2 and other products. While it’s not ideal, the situation isn’t as bad as it could have been, and there are a few positive aspects to consider.
Nintendo announced price increases for several of its products and services on May 8th, citing changing market conditions. This includes a price hike for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as well as for the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Online in some areas. While no one likes price increases, they’re relatively modest compared to the rising costs of other modern gaming consoles. Here’s a breakdown of the changes.
Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increase Effective September 1st in the U.S.

Let’s start with the update on pricing. The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost more starting May 25th in Japan. For those in the United States, Canada, and Europe, the price increase won’t happen until September 1st. Here’s a look at the new prices coming on September 1st:
- Japan (effective May 25th): ¥59,980, up from ¥49,980
- United States: $499.99, up from $449.99
- Canada: $679.99, up from $629.99
- Europe: €499.99, up from €469.99
This memo only lists price changes for specific regions, but similar updates will happen in other countries too. Local representatives will share those details, so if you’re buying a Switch 2 outside of these areas, keep an eye out for announcements.
The price is increasing by around $50 in most places. While this isn’t ideal given the current economic climate, it’s less of an increase than we’ve seen with the PS5 and Xbox, which both went up about $100 since the beginning of 2025. Also, outside of Japan, the price won’t actually change until September, so you still have some time to buy a Switch 2 at the current price.
Some Customers Can Expect Higher Prices For Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch Online (But The U.S. Is Safe For Now)

Japanese Nintendo fans are facing price increases for both the original Nintendo Switch console and Nintendo Switch Online memberships. This follows similar price adjustments for the original Switch in many other countries last year. Nintendo says these changes are being made to standardize pricing across different regions. Good news for players in the US and elsewhere: Nintendo Switch Online membership prices won’t be increasing in those areas for now.
Starting July 1st, Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack memberships will cost more for customers in Japan and South Korea. You can find the specific price changes in Nintendo’s official announcement. Good news for U.S. fans though – these price increases don’t affect the current cost of NSO in the States. However, when the new Switch 2 comes out during the 2026 holiday season, it will be priced $50 higher than previous models.
