Even though its main storyline finished a while back, this popular series has shown that the new, rising manga in Weekly Shonen Jump still has a ways to go before achieving the same level of success.
The final volume of the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga, by Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki, was the best-selling manga in Japan from April 27th to May 3rd, selling approximately 134,102 copies. It outperformed Volume 11 of Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono, which sold 65,138 copies during the same week, according to Oricon’s sales charts.
Two new manga volumes were released in Japan on May 1, 2026. Modulo remained the best-selling manga of the week, surpassing other recent releases like Sakamoto Days and Ichi the Witch. The complete list of the top 10 best-selling manga is shown below.

Even though it’s currently number two, the manga Kagurabachi is quickly becoming one of the most popular new series in Weekly Shonen Jump. With the release of Volume 11, it’s reached 4 million copies sold, showing a similar growth pattern to hits like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia. The publisher announced this milestone in an official social media campaign in late 2024.
The manga Kagurabachi has an anime adaptation in the works by CYPIC Studio, which is expected to significantly boost its sales in the future. Despite this growing popularity, it hasn’t yet closed the considerable gap of almost 70,000 copies separating it from the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel series, which currently holds the top spot.
Even though the original Jujutsu Kaisen story finished almost two years ago, Akutami decided to create the spin-off Modulo because it had a compelling idea. They worked with Iwasaki, who did the artwork. Modulo quickly became popular, selling over 190,000 copies of its first volume. However, this new series will likely be the last installment in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, as Akutami has stated there won’t be any future sequels.
Set in the future, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo tells the story of Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren as they battle aliens attempting to colonize Earth. The Jujutsu Kaisen series, which includes the original manga and its spin-offs, has become incredibly popular, with over 100 million copies sold worldwide, making it a top title from publisher Shueisha.
To celebrate the release of the last book in the Modulo series, which continues the story with familiar characters, fans can find the original manga and the Modulo spin-off on VIZ Media. Plus, the first three seasons of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime are streaming on Crunchyroll.
