In the latest episode, Dev Ayesa, a key and forward-thinking character on the show, made some troubling decisions with potentially huge consequences for the future. When Edi Gathegi first joined For All Mankind in season 3, his character, Dev, was presented as a wealthy idealist hoping to open up space exploration to private companies. He initially seemed like a dreamer with good intentions.

I have to say, watching Dev’s story unfold has been a real rollercoaster. His bold, unconventional way of running Helios – basically ditching all the traditional management structures and throwing money at his vision – ultimately backfired. It left the company vulnerable, and we saw Karen Baldwin swoop in and take control in a hostile takeover. That moment really seemed to break something in Dev, and he started down a path of bitterness. But honestly, things have gotten much darker in season five – it’s a genuinely unsettling turn for the character.

Dev Ayesa’s Dream For Life On Mars Has Taken Him Over The Edge

In season 4, Kelly Baldwin and Aleida Rosales convinced Dev to help rebuild Helios and return to a leadership role. He then traveled to Mars and began overseeing preparations to transform the planet’s surface into a thriving new city called Meru.

Dev has faced setbacks with partners before, and now seems to be working with little supervision. He frequently makes big announcements and spends company money without keeping Aleida Rosales, the current CEO, informed.

Okay, so season 5 of For All Mankind really threw me for a loop. It turns out Dev Yarrow was secretly working with the Soviets to basically automate Mars, hoping to speed up construction of his city, Meru. But here’s the awful part: to make it happen, he’d have to send almost everyone currently living on Mars back to Earth, and then only let the super-rich buy their way into a new life there. It’s a really dark turn, and honestly, it feels like a betrayal of everything the show was building towards.

When his automation plans sparked a rebellion in Happy Valley, Dev unexpectedly joined forces with the Peacekeepers. He helped them suppress the uprising and worked with them to sabotage resources, hoping to restore his own operations. Sadly, this led to one person’s death and left several others seriously injured.

For All Mankind Continues To Explore Complex Layered Characters With Dev’s Recent Choices

Dev never meant to cause harm. He planned the operation for the very early morning, hoping no one would be awake, especially not near the food storage areas. However, despite his good intentions, his actions tragically resulted in serious injuries and deaths among people who had previously depended on and trusted him.

For All Mankind excels at developing its characters, giving them depth and complexity. This is true for figures like Dev, Margo Madison, and Ed Baldwin, as well as even supporting characters like the Peacekeepers on Happy Valley. These well-developed characters make the story more captivating and keep you invested in what happens to them.

Could Dev Ayesa Still Become A Better Man In For All Mankind, Or Is It Too Late?

Just as Margo eventually made amends for her past mistakes and choosing to leave the country rather than face the consequences, hopefully Dev will soon realize the harm he’s caused while chasing his own ambitions. It’s time for him to understand the impact of his selfish actions on so many others.

Look, Dev’s really dug himself a hole. People hate his schemes, and now he’s crossed a line by killing someone who stood in the way of his Mars ambitions. Honestly, I think he might be beyond redemption. But that’s what makes season 5 of For All Mankind so exciting – his story is about to go on a wild, unpredictable ride, and I have no idea where it’s headed. It’s going to be spectacular.
