Saros ending explained: What happened to Arjun in the main ending and secret ending?

Saros is known for its challenging gameplay, and if you’ve reached the end and defeated the final bosses, you’ll find the story’s conclusion is equally complex and difficult to understand.

Okay, so I’ve been diving into Saros, and I’ve figured out what’s going on with Arjun’s story. I also got a good look at the other characters and… things… you meet on Carcosa. It’s a weird place, let me tell you!

Saros ending explained: What happens to Arjun in the standard ending?

Following his victory over the King at Yellow Shore, Arjun claimed the throne, undergoing a dramatic change to become the new ruler.

Arjun now sits on the throne, taking his place as the ruler of Carcosa beneath the Yellow Sign, and is happily reunited with Nitya.

However, as you’ll see when we break down Saros’ true ending, this isn’t actually the case.

The events unfolding are a carefully crafted illusion created by Nitya, presented to Arjun at the Yellow Shore. This illusion is designed to position him as the next King. Throughout the story of Saros, Arjun is primarily motivated by his desire to return to Nitya, believing she will be his reward if he succeeds in becoming King.

This represents a darker outcome for Saros, where Arjun succumbs to the influence of Carcosa and his longing to be with Nitya, ultimately leading to his corruption.

What happens in the Secret Ending of Saros?

Okay, so after I finally beat Saros the first time, something amazing happened! Arjun doesn’t stay the King – he wakes up back at the passage, but totally different. That’s when the real ending begins. It’s incredible, because you get to go back to all these important places in Carcosa, and it all culminates back on the Yellow Shore. It’s a really powerful experience!

Returning to the Yellow Shore, Arjun confronts the King once more. After overcoming him in battle—but choosing not to deliver a fatal blow—Arjun passes through a portal and begins to change, reverting back into the King’s form.

Just as Arjun was about to become King, he removed his Sun Pendant and tossed it into the water, stopping the transformation process.

Arjun found himself standing with Nitya on the beach, known as the Blue Precipice. Once he acknowledged what had happened between them, Nitya said, “Today is a fresh start. I’m curious to see what you’ll make of it.”

As Nitya walks away from Arjun, police lights begin to flash, before a cut to black.

Who was Sebastian?

Although Sebastian Torres seemed to be present with the Echelon IV crew in the Passage, caring for the plants, he wasn’t actually there. He was a creation of Arjun’s mind, a manifestation of his own feelings of guilt.

Sebastian was Arjun’s friend and likely worked with Arjun on Earth.

It seems Arjun killed Sebastian after Sebastian discovered Arjun had been unfaithful to Nitya at a hotel and threatened to expose him.

What happened to Nitya?

Nitya escaped an abusive relationship with Arjun and joined the crew of Echelon I on Carcosa, where she found love with a fellow crewmember named Kiira.

But the Yellow Shore’s influence reached Echelon I, twisting people like Delroy and Micah, and the rest of the team. Delroy rapidly became the head of the Yellow Shore’s devoted followers, destroying Kiira and leaving only her essence remaining.

Delroy probably orchestrated these events because he intended for Nitya to be his Priestess – a major boss encountered near the end of the Cathedral. However, Nitya managed to escape before he could make her his Priestess.

She built both the Constant and the Preserver – the machine in the Passage that brings Arjun back to life after each attempt. When she revisits the Passage during Saros, she tries to destroy the Preserver, worried that Arjun might become powerful enough to claim the throne and break the seal on the dangerous Yellow Shore, a seal maintained by the Constant.

After what felt like centuries, Nitya finally arrived at the Blue Precipice, the edge of Saros, a place beyond the reach of the Yellow.

What happened to the Echelon missions?

The crew of Echelon I were the first to fall under the influence of the Yellow. This power transformed them into god-like beings of Carcosa, and they are probably the powerful bosses you’ll encounter in each area of the game.

When Echelon II reached Carcosa, the original expedition enslaved them, forcing them to construct monuments to the Yellow King. Eventually, Echelon II succumbed to corruption as well.

Since Echelon I are established as bosses in Saros, it’s possible the crew of Echelon II transformed into the various other creatures and enemies players encounter there.

Who was the Yellow King?

Saros doesn’t explicitly state who the original Yellow King was, but clues throughout the story strongly suggest it’s Arnold Delroy – the boss you fight first.

While playing Saros live, actor Rahul Kohli (playing the character Arjun) revealed that the first King likely came from the Echelon I group, suggesting Delroy or Micah as the most probable choices.

However, given Delroy’s rise to power, we would imagine he is the first King you face in Saros.

The battles that follow against the King are open to different understandings. It’s possible Arjun is actually fighting earlier or alternate versions of himself, twisted into the Yellow King, versions that never reached the Blue Precipice.
