PlayStation is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End by offering free downloads on the PlayStation Network. Since the anniversary fell on a Sunday, the celebration is happening today! These free downloads are available for PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, and PS5 owners, and it looks like they’re here to stay – PlayStation and Naughty Dog haven’t indicated any time limit for getting them.
PlayStation is offering a free background for the PS5’s Welcome hub to fans of Uncharted, especially those who enjoy Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. This freebie is exclusive to PS5 owners, as the Welcome hub isn’t available on other platforms. PS4 users already have access to several Uncharted themes. For those unfamiliar, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a remastered bundle for PS5 that includes both Uncharted 4 and its standalone expansion, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Additionally, four new avatars themed around Uncharted 4 are now available on the PlayStation Store for both PS5 and PS4, though they don’t feature any characters from the series.
A Hint at Uncharted’s Return?
It’s a little strange to see PlayStation and Naughty Dog highlight a series that hasn’t had a new game in ten years. While rumors suggested Uncharted 5 might be in development, those haven’t been confirmed. Currently, Naughty Dog is focused on Heretic: The Intergalactic Prophet, and we don’t know when that game will be released. After that, the studio could revisit Uncharted, create a sequel to a new game, or even make The Last of Us 3. Because of all these possibilities, it always seemed likely that any future Uncharted games would be developed by a different studio. If the series isn’t going to be actively continued, it feels unusual to mark its anniversary with such a significant celebration.
Along with the latest free content for PlayStation Network, Naughty Dog has shared a special video on YouTube. It features Nolan North, the actor who plays Nathan Drake in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” celebrating ten years of fan support. You can watch the video right here.
