This year, the DOOM series unleashed a fresh wave of medieval chaos with DOOM: The Dark Ages, and the excitement is far from over! In fact, eager fans now have not one but two upcoming DOOM games to anticipate. Better yet, you won’t have to wait long to dive into the action, and for those who favor a specific era within the franchise, there will be an option to select which game aligns with your preferences.
Modiphius Entertainment has revealed that it is working on two separate DOOM video games, each set in a distinct period of the franchise’s history. Notably, this studio has previously contributed significantly to popular franchises such as Fallout, Star Trek, The Elder Scrolls, Dune, and Mass Effect. Now, Modiphius is leveraging its expertise in miniatures and tabletop games to introduce DOOM-themed board games, specifically the “DOOM – Arena Board Game.” This game will launch on Kickstarter later this year. Although a specific Kickstarter date hasn’t been announced yet, attendees at Gen Con next week and QuakeCon on August 7th will have the opportunity to experience early demos of these board games.
Not only that, but there will be two distinct variations of the game: one called “DOOM – Arena Board Game” modeled after the original 1993 “DOOM” video game, and another titled “DOOM: The Dark Ages – Arena Board Game“. While the former will stick to the classic theme, the latter will revolve around the latest release. Both games will adhere to the same rule set, allowing you to command either the DOOM Slayer or the demonic armies, resulting in an epic struggle in each game.
As an excited fan, I’m eagerly anticipating each round of this game, where I’ll strategically maneuver my miniatures amidst chaotic combat, collecting powerful weapons and facing off against terrifying demons. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign promises additional expansions, introducing formidable adversaries such as the Atlan mech and the Mecha Dragon. Unfortunately, we don’t have any gameplay photos yet, but that will change once Gen Con rolls around. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the breathtaking cover art below.
Chris Birch, one of the founders of Modiphius, expressed: “DOOM has always been a favorite among dedicated first-person shooter enthusiasts since its inception, and it evokes countless memories. We’re thrilled to transfer that exhilarating gameplay, together with our exceptional miniatures, onto the tabletop!
We’ll make sure to inform you as soon as we have new information regarding the Kickstarter campaign. Given Modiphius’ impressive work on titles like Fallout, Star Trek, and Mass Effect, it’s intriguing to imagine what they could achieve with a franchise like DOOM, considering their extensive background in miniatures and tactical gaming.
