Prime Video has officially greenlit a series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s popular fantasy novel, Fourth Wing. This is a significant step forward for the project.
After a long period of development, a television series based on Rebecca Yarros’s The Empyrean books is officially happening. Michael B. Jordan, known for his role in Creed, will also be an executive producer on the show.
I’m so excited about this series! It’s amazing to know that Rebecca Yarros, the author, is involved, and they’ve brought in some incredible talent like Lisa Joy, who co-created Westworld, and Meredith Averill from Locke & Key. Lisa’s directing the first episode, which is huge, and Meredith will be running the show overall – I have so much confidence in them!
The Empyrean series currently has three books: Fourth Wing, published in May 2023, Iron Flame, released in November 2023, and Onyx Storm, which came out in January 2025. The author is planning to add two more books to the series.
Fourth Wing takes place at Basgiath War College, a brutal school where survival isn’t guaranteed. The story centers on Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old who is surprisingly forced by her mother, a powerful general, to try out to become a dragon rider in the kingdom of Navarre.
Yarros expressed her excitement about collaborating with the team, praising their dedication, experience, and genuine enthusiasm for the books and their readers.

Peter Friedlander, who leads television development for Amazon MGM Studios, also noted that the story of Violet in Fourth Wing has become a worldwide hit, attracting millions of readers and a very dedicated fanbase who love its characters, setting, and emotional impact.
Everyone is incredibly excited about the upcoming adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s popular series, and we’re working hard with Meredith and our partners at Kilter, Outlier, and Premeditated to create something that stays true to the beloved story and will please fans.
Jordan has a lot on his plate after winning an Oscar earlier this year. He’s currently developing a series about Muhammad Ali, titled ‘The Greatest,’ a spin-off show from the ‘Creed’ movies called ‘Delphi,’ and a movie based on the ‘Battlefield’ video game series.
He’s also going to be in a new version of Miami Vice and a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.
