Scott-Vincent Borba is serving a higher calling.
After leaving his successful career and donating his millions, the co-founder of e.l.f. Cosmetics is preparing to become a Catholic priest. He will be ordained by the Diocese of Fresno on May 23rd, just weeks from now.
In a recent interview with ABC 7, the 52-year-old shared that they’ve never felt more content. They explained that finding renewed faith and focusing on God brought a sense of joy back into their life.
After enjoying a comfortable lifestyle for many years, he realized something was missing in his 40s and felt a loss of happiness.
I remember when e.l.f. Cosmetics was just starting in 2004 – Joseph Shamah and I were really living the Hollywood lifestyle, hanging out with people like Paris Hilton and the Kardashians,” Borba said. “I definitely wasn’t humble back then; I was very proud of myself.
Once the appeal of his lavish life faded, Borba went back to the passion he’d discovered as a child of ten.
He explained that he prayed for guidance in becoming the person he was meant to be, and immediately felt overwhelmed with love and compassion. He described it as a deeply spiritual experience.
Currently, Borba’s life is a long way from the glamorous world of beauty and celebrity it once was.

He described his living situation as very simple, saying he lives in a small, nearly empty room. He only has a few clothes and shoes, and has reduced his life to the essentials.
Honestly, Father Borba’s story just gets me. It’s not just that he didn’t come to the priesthood in the typical way – it’s that he did it so much later in life! I read that most new priests are around 33, and he’s nearly twenty years older than that! It’s incredible, and just adds to how inspiring his journey is. It really makes you think, you know?
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by shifts in different fields, and it’s really interesting what I’m seeing in ministry right now. I recently learned from Zach Flanagin, a professor of theology, that the vast majority of people entering seminary are younger – in fact, only about 3% of current seminarians are over the age of 50. It shows a clear trend towards a younger generation taking on religious leadership.
“I think,” Flanagin said, “his story is a great opportunity to inspire people.”

Following a serious heart attack in 2019, the actor best known for The Mask of Zorro returned to his hometown of Málaga, Spain, to dedicate himself to performing on stage.
“It completely shifted my perspective on life,” Antonio shared with The Times in March 2026. “Coming face to face with my own mortality made me reflect and realize that, at my core, I’m a stage actor.”
The Tony Award nominee, who still acts in television and movies sometimes, now owns a theater and actively participates in local events.
Honestly, I’ve never felt more fulfilled. It’s all about staying connected to where I come from – my community, my neighbors, the people who shaped me. Over the years, that connection hasn’t faded; it’s actually grown stronger, and it means the world to me.

After 19 seasons, The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 following accusations of a negative and harmful workplace. These claims led to an internal investigation, the dismissal of several executives, and widespread public criticism.
Ellen made a comeback with her last stand-up comedy special, For Your Approval, which premiered on Netflix in September 2024. Before the special aired, she announced her plans to retire from Hollywood.
During her recent stand-up tour, Ellen DeGeneres told the audience, according to SFGate, that she plans to retire after her upcoming Netflix special. She stated, ‘This is the last time you’re going to see me.’
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Ellen and Portia – my absolute heroes! – they actually moved to the Cotswolds! I heard it straight from Ellen herself! She was chatting with Richard Bacon at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham last July, and she said they decided to stay put there permanently after… well, after Trump got reelected back in November 2024. I’ve been following their life for years, and this just confirms they’re the most amazing, thoughtful people ever!
She raved about the English countryside, telling the BBC it was ‘absolutely beautiful’ and unlike anything she was used to. She particularly loved the charming villages, towns, and architecture, and appreciated the feeling of a more relaxed, simple lifestyle.
“It’s just a nicer place,” Ellen explained. “They treat animals well, and everyone is so friendly. We really love living here. We moved in November, which wasn’t the best timing, but I finally got to see snow! Portia brought her horses with her, and I have chickens. We even had sheep for a short while – about two weeks.”

Tyra Banks, the host of America’s Next Top Model, decided to move to Australia partly to focus on her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. She explained on Today with Jenna & Friends that her business had been primarily supplying ice cream to places like airlines and cruise ships, and she’d been traveling to Australia frequently to oversee production at a large facility there. She really enjoyed her time in Australia and recognized it as a strong market for her product. According to Tyra, the countries that consume the most ice cream are America, New Zealand, and Australia. She ultimately moved there with her son, York (whose father is Erik Asla), and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, saying Australia has been a wonderful experience for her and her family.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved from Los Angeles and now splits her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she lived in Los Angeles her entire adult life, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated that shift. Issues like homelessness and high taxes contributed to her decision, though she doesn’t want to criticize California.
Longoria clarified to The View: Behind the Table that her move wasn’t due to politics, despite speculation following the election. Instead, it was driven by work opportunities – six months filming in Catalonia, four months in Mexico for a project, and then returning to Spain. She’s been living there for years now and dislikes the idea that her decision is being framed as politically motivated.
Despite the move, Longoria remains busy with acting projects, including recent roles in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip. She also expressed gratitude for her ability to move, acknowledging that many Americans don’t have the same freedom and feels sadness for those who are stuck in what she describes as a difficult situation.

Actor Richard Gere has relocated from Chicago to Spain with his family. He shared that his wife, Alejandra Silva, who is from Galicia, encouraged the move, and they plan to live in Madrid for several years. Gere is excited about the opportunity for their sons, Alexander and James, to thrive in a bilingual environment. He also has an adult son, Homer, from a previous relationship with Carey Lowell. The whole family seems to be adjusting well, with Gere telling Elle España in January 2025 that they are happier than ever and ‘seeing us in our momentum.’

Singer Christina Milian and her family have officially made Paris their home. Married to French singer Matt Pokora for over seven years, the couple previously spent half the year commuting between the US and France. They decided to fully relocate so their children – Violet (from a previous marriage), and sons Isaiah and Kenna – could attend school in France. Milian feels it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to learn the language and experience a new culture. She shared with TopMob that her kids are thriving, and she’s enjoying a balanced lifestyle, staying active during the day and working ahead of schedule at night. She describes their life in Paris as happy and healthy.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by the ongoing speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. She recently explained that her busy career and active social life in the early 2000s were often overshadowed by intense media attention. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, she expressed annoyance that paparazzi coverage dominated the narrative, overshadowing her work. She felt she needed to step away to allow her career to be the focus, rather than constant tabloid stories. This desire for a quieter life led her to move overseas, first to London and then to Dubai, where she also started opening beach clubs in Greece.
Lindsay Lohan admitted she worried she might never find love, questioning if it would ever happen for her. She realized she needed to focus on herself before she could open herself up to new possibilities and the things she truly wanted.
She eventually found love with Bader Shammas, marrying him in 2022 and welcoming their son, Luai, in 2023.
Though they currently live in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind, and has appeared in films like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after some careful thought. He explained to People magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a way of life. Being surrounded by people constantly focused on the film industry, he felt, would limit his perspective. He wanted a life with more variety.
“I’ve always wanted to be around people doing different things, things that would take my mind off work and help me grow,” Josh said. “That’s what makes life interesting.”
So, Josh, his wife Tamsin Egerton, and their four children moved to the countryside in Hampshire, England. He told The Guardian in July 2024 that time flies with a large family, and while it might seem like less is happening on the surface, more of what truly matters is. Despite the move, Josh has continued to act, appearing in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by how people navigate fame, and Jesse is a great example of someone who’s really prioritized a grounded life. You might be surprised to learn he actually doesn’t live in Los Angeles anymore! He told CBS News that he’s been living in Indiana on and off for the past decade, and that’s where he truly feels at home. He prefers a sense of stability, and honestly, who can blame him? He’s an Oscar nominee, but he lives a remarkably normal life with his wife, Anna Strout, and their son, Banner. He’s intentionally stepped away from the constant buzz of Hollywood – he’s not on social media and doesn’t spend his days networking. In fact, his son barely even watches movies! It’s refreshing to hear how he’s created a life that feels separate from all the industry pressures and constant self-assessment. It just proves you can achieve success without being completely consumed by it.

Eliza Dushku, known for roles in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie Bring It On, announced in September 2024 that she’s now a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist and is continuing her education in the field of mental health.
She explained to Boston Magazine that she was able to change her life’s path to prioritize her own well-being, with the goal of then helping others. She felt it was important to share the positive changes she’d experienced – the peace and passion she now felt – because she knew this was truly her calling and purpose.

The actress best known for playing a character on The Flintstones shared that she moved to Ireland with her son, Clay, in January 2025. She’s now working to become an Irish citizen because of her family’s roots there. While she mentioned current political issues as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to her home country someday.
In a TikTok video, she shared that she misses her children, her friends, and her life back home. She’s working on building a new life in this country, and they’ll think about returning to America when it’s a safe and equal place for everyone.

Actress Evangeline Lilly, known for her role in Ant-Man and the Wasp, has announced she’s stepping away from acting for an unspecified amount of time after a two-decade career.
Honestly, I’m feeling incredibly happy and at peace these days because I’m finally living the life I’ve always envisioned. It’s amazing how grateful you become when you prioritize what truly matters. I took a leap of faith and moved away from chasing the usual markers of success – you know, money and fame – and while it was definitely a little scary at first, it’s been replaced with a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment. It’s all about living your authentic life, and that’s where the real joy is!
She’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Since starring in the 2019 Netflix series V-Wars, the actor best known for The Vampire Diaries has been focusing on a personal mission: fighting climate change by working to improve soil health around the world.
Ian Somerhalder took a break from acting about four years ago to focus on raising his children, developing his businesses, and getting his documentaries released. He told TopMob News in November 2023 that these films – Kiss the Ground (released in 2020) and its sequel, Common Ground – highlight the importance of regenerative farming. He shares two children with his wife, Nikki Reed.
Looking ahead, the actor explained he plans to become a rancher and focus on building lasting brands – including his bourbon and health company. He’s deeply committed to regenerative agriculture and healthy soil practices, which are central to his and his family’s lifestyle. He shared that this future is genuinely important to him, and it’s the reason behind his passions and work.

During a February 2021 episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shared with guest Anna Faris that she had stopped acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing opportunities, alongside hosting the podcast.
Jennette shared that she regrets many of the acting roles she took in the past, detailing her feelings in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. She admitted to feeling resentful towards her career, finding the roles unfulfilling and often cheesy and embarrassing. Having worked on those shows from age 13 to 21, she was already self-conscious about her work by age 15, feeling it wasn’t something her peers admired.
She hasn’t ruled out returning to acting completely. In an October 2022 interview with TopMob News, she explained that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from past pressures. She suggested she might explore it again if she wrote a role specifically for herself, as that could be the only way she’d consider it.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, focus on the charities we care about, and wear the Queen’s tiaras would definitely make leaving Hollywood worth it.
Similar to Grace Kelly’s journey from Hollywood to Monaco, Meghan Markle transitioned from her acting career in Toronto, where she starred in the show Suits, to a life within the British Royal Family. Now that she and Prince Harry have stepped down as senior royals and live in California, Meghan is returning to professional life. This includes a production deal with Netflix, where she released the 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan and will launch a lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, in 2025. She has also started a podcast and her own brand, As Ever.

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with 1994’s The Mask, the actress really needed a rest when she finished filming Annie in 2014.
Honestly, I totally get why she needed a change. She shared with Gwyneth that she just realized she wanted something different from life. She’d been working non-stop, making films, and it’s exhausting. Movie-making is a total grind – it’s almost like they want to take over your life. You’re committed for twelve hours a day, months on end, and you don’t have a moment to yourself. It’s like she needed to reclaim her time and focus on what she wanted.
Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing – she’d already had success with her bestselling books The Body Book (2013) and The Longevity Book (2016) – and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Although she told InStyle in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seemed she might be open to returning for at least one more project.
Jamie Foxx explained to TopMob News how they convinced Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action. He said they practically pleaded with her, getting down on their knees to ask her to do it. “We love her, and we’ve been waiting for her to do another film – this is going to be amazing!”

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show after completing his five years on Empire. When Extra asked Terrence Howard about his plans before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, he said he was retiring from acting, declaring, “I’m done pretending.”
Despite appearing in a few projects since then, the Academy Award nominee announced his intention to retire from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. He explained to Entertainment Tonight that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and now wants to focus on watching and supporting new talent, rather than simply repeating performances of his own.
Even with the previous concerns, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix film Shirley. He also has several other projects planned for the future.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, the 21-year-old actor told EW he was leaving acting. He explained that he’d been acting since he was eight years old and simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.
Jack isn’t a child star anymore, and some of the excitement has faded. He explained that turning his hobby into a job changes things. “Before, it was just for fun with friends or something to do in the summer,” he said. “I still like it, but making a living from it alters how you feel about it. It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just not my career goal.”
After a six-year hiatus, Jack returned to acting in 2020 with a role in the BBC series Out of Her Mind. Since then, he’s also been in films such as Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners, and TV shows including Safe Harbor and The Famous Five.

After becoming famous for her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Jennifer Aniston married actor Kevin Kline in 1989. They made a deal to alternate work schedules so they could both care for their children, Owen and Greta, who is now a singer known as Frankie Cosmos.
I just… I can’t get over it! Every time it’s been Phoebe’s turn to work on a project, she always chooses to be with her kids. It’s so sweet, honestly. I know she did a little thing in Jennifer Jason Leigh’s movie, The Anniversary Party back in 2001, but mostly she pours all her energy into her boutique, Blue Tree, here in New York. It’s amazing she can do it all, even if she does prioritize her family – which, okay, I totally get, but I still miss seeing her on screen!

During the peak of his success with movies like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, the actor took a break from filmmaking after his wife sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1991. He wanted to dedicate his time to raising his children, Rachel and Mitchell.
Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997 – he even turned down a brief appearance in the 2016 Ghostbusters remake – Rick remains a beloved figure, as shown by the strong reaction to news of an assault he experienced while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, fans will be happy to hear he’s returning to the screen alongside Josh Gad in the upcoming Disney reboot, Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and she wasn’t interested in that. She explained that taking on such roles felt risky, and while her marriage was solid, she needed a truly exceptional project to justify it.
After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she was now fully focused on being a mother and supporting her husband, Jimmy Kimmel, with his work, while also pursuing painting as a hobby. She explained that raising her children was the main reason she’d stopped appearing in films and television.

Oh my gosh, she was amazing in everything! I mean, Ally McBeal? Iconic! And then Nip/Tuck – seriously, she could do it all! I was obsessed with her in Arrested Development too, but it was when she did Scandal that I felt like she finally started to really explore different roles, like she was ready to take on anything. It was such a turning point for her, and I’ve been following her ever since!
Turning 45, I started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging,” she shared on her wife Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in 2018. “I had a good idea of what my acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so I decided to leave it behind and start my own business.”
Her company, General Public, which creates art for everyone, was almost complete – she just needed to finish one final piece.
As a huge Arrested Development fan, I was pretty upfront with Mitch Hurwitz, the show’s creator. I told him that if they ever made a season 5, I wouldn’t be able to participate – I’d decided to step away from acting. To my surprise, he was incredibly understanding and really listened. We had a fantastic chat, and the next thing I knew, he’d written me into five episodes! It was amazing.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider what else there is to achieve. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for his 2017 film, Phantom Thread, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his gratitude to colleagues and fans over the years and noted that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.
Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she stepped away from acting in 2018 to focus on her education. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and also attended Harvard Law School.
On top of everything else, Bridgit founded Northwood Space, a startup focused on building ground stations for sending and receiving data from satellites. She became the company’s CEO in February 2023.
