New Gears of War Could Go Head-to-Head with Sony’s Wolverine, But Will It Be on PS5?

As a huge Gears of War fan, I’m getting really excited because it’s looking more and more likely that Gears of War: E-Day will be out in September! All the signs are pointing to a release then, which is awesome.

Releasing it now would clear the path for GTA 6, but it could end up competing directly with Marvel’s Wolverine, a major PlayStation 5 exclusive game currently planned for release on September 15th.

In an unusual move for the company, Microsoft is heavily investing in the upcoming wrestling event, Triplemania 2026, happening in Mexico from September 11th to 13th. The event’s main sponsor will be Microsoft’s game, Gears of War: E-Day.

And this is where the big questions arise: will the prequel be playable on the PS5?

Typically, we would have expected a clear reason for releasing Gears of War Reloaded last year – it seemed designed to introduce PlayStation 5 players to the world of Marcus Fenix.

Xbox’s biggest games are now available on PlayStation, and even future titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable are confirmed to be coming as well.

However, the new executive, Asha Sharma, has been hesitant to discuss this issue directly. She’s told excited Xbox content creators that she’s considering bringing games back to consoles and will need to rethink the company’s strategy regarding exclusive titles.

Sales of the Xbox Series X and S consoles are significantly down compared to last year. Considering Microsoft’s Game Pass service, it’s unclear how the company will profit from its exclusive games unless it also releases them on PlayStation 5.

I’m really hoping we find out if Gears of War: E-Day is coming to PlayStation! It’s one of the few games Xbox has announced so far that hasn’t been confirmed for PS5. I’ll definitely be tuning in to the Gears of War: E-Day Direct next month – it’s right after the Xbox Games Showcase – to see if they finally announce it.

We think it’s likely to happen, but it might initially be available only on Xbox for a limited time, similar to how Forza Horizon 6 was released.

It doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait too long to find out for sure.
