Henry Cavill will star in a new live-action anime film from Amazon MGM Studios, and recently, an exciting update was revealed as the remake of a beloved 1980s property nears release. Live-action anime adaptations have been very successful lately, with many projects receiving positive feedback from longtime fans and newcomers alike. Now, a significant test awaits as another classic from the 1980s is being adapted for live-action.
Amazon MGM Studios is creating a new live-action Voltron series starring Henry Cavill in an undisclosed role, alongside a fresh cast. While many expected it to be released in theaters, Amazon MGM Studios recently announced it will debut directly on Prime Video. This is a surprising decision for the reboot, as it will bypass a traditional theatrical release.
Voltron Live-Action Movie Reboot to Stream With Prime Video, Skipping Theaters

A live-action Voltron movie has been in the works for years, and officially began production in 2024 when Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights. Shortly after, the cast started to come together, with Henry Cavill and Sterling K. Brown among the first to sign on. Filming finished last year, bringing the anime adaptation closer to release. However, as of today, Prime Video hasn’t announced a release date or confirmed it will even be a movie.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for films like Red Notice and Central Intelligence, is directing a live-action Voltron movie. He co-wrote the screenplay with Ellen Shanman. Todd Lieberman, David Hoberman, and Bob Koplar (representing World Events Productions, the company behind the original Voltron series) are producing the film. However, details about the story are still largely unknown.
Who Stars in Live-Action Voltron Movie?

Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, and Rita Ora will lead the cast of the upcoming live-action Voltron movie. Joining them are newcomers John Kim, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, and Tharanya Tharan, who are expected to play the pilots of Voltron’s iconic lions. While the specific roles haven’t been officially announced yet, more details are coming soon as the film gets ready for release.
Keep an eye on the upcoming Voltron series – it’s unique as an English-language production. It was created by World Events Productions, which took footage from the original Japanese anime shows Beast King Go-Lion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV and turned them into the Voltron many fans remember. The new series promises to stay true to the 1980s original, and given Amazon MGM Studios’ success with Masters of the Universe, there’s optimism they can deliver a great show.
