Crimson Desert’s Massive Success Is Down to the US, Europe, and Strong Console Sales

Crimson Desert has quickly become a major success for Pearl Abyss, the Korean game studio behind it. Since launching in March, the game has already sold over 5 million copies.

So, what do the sales numbers actually look like? The company’s recent financial report is interesting because it reveals some surprising data.

Okay, so here’s the deal with Crimson Desert’s money. Most of it – like, 94% – comes from players outside of Korea. And if you break that down even further, the US and Europe are doing most of the heavy lifting, accounting for a huge 81% of those overseas sales. Basically, we Western players are keeping this game afloat!

Recently, games like Black Myth: Wukong have become huge hits in their home countries, leading some to believe that Crimson Desert needed similar success in Asia to do well. However, that wasn’t actually the key to its performance.

Notably, the game has sold roughly the same number of copies on consoles as it has on PC – it’s almost a perfect 50/50 split, according to the report.

Many expected most players of Crimson Desert to be on PC due to the game’s high technical requirements. However, a similar number of console players have also tried it out.

It will be interesting to observe how well Crimson Desert performs in the long run. The game is receiving regular updates, and the overall experience has improved a lot since it first came out.
