Saros PS5 Sales Estimates at 300k, Selling Slower Than Returnal on a Bigger Install Base

Early sales numbers from Alinea Analytics suggest Saros isn’t performing as strongly as expected, with around 300,000 copies sold in the two weeks since its release.

It’s important to remember this isn’t an official figure, and it comes from a source whose data accuracy has been questioned. While some of their past predictions were reasonably close to the actual results, others have been doubted. We also don’t currently know how they arrived at this number.

However, analyst Rhys Elliot points out that even if these numbers are correct, sales might still be lower than Returnal’s, even though many more people own a PS5.

I remember when Housemarque’s last game came out, the PlayStation 5 was still pretty new and not everyone had one. They could reach about eight million players back then. But now? PlayStation says there are over 93 million consoles out there! That’s a huge difference, and it’s amazing to think about how many more people could play their games now.

The PlayStation 5 now has a much larger and more diverse selection of games available. Saros faces competition from a huge number of titles, unlike Returnal when it first came out, which benefited from a lot of excitement for new games created specifically for the PS5 hardware.

Looking at the PlayStation Store charts, Saros initially seemed to have slow sales, although this was based on just one day of data from its Early Access launch. It might take time for the game to gain traction, but early player feedback has been positive.

Our latest poll shows that Returnal is slightly more popular than Saros, though the two games are very close in preference.

I’m really curious how well Saros is actually selling, but we’ll have to wait for the official numbers to come out. Hopefully Sony releases some sales data soon, or at least we’ll see where it ranks according to Circana. Then we’ll really know if it’s a hit!

However, the numbers suggest the game is off to a slow beginning, and it likely wasn’t expected to be a massive hit to begin with.
