From Star Confirms How Long the Hit Sci-Fi Horror Show Was Supposed to Last Ahead of Fifth & Final Season

The show launched with little fanfare in 2022, but it quickly gained a dedicated following and became surprisingly popular. It’s now in the middle of its fourth season, and has already been renewed for a fifth, even before the current season finished airing.

The series is available only on MGM+, which initially made it difficult for viewers to find. Despite this, positive reviews and a captivating storyline gradually increased its popularity, leading to continued renewals. In a recent interview, Hannah Cheramy, the lead actress, revealed the originally planned length of the series.

From Was Always a 5-Season Show

Cheramy, who has played Julie Matthews since the very beginning of the show, said she learned about Season 5 being renewed just like everyone else – when it was announced publicly. While five seasons were always the goal, it wasn’t certain to happen, and she’s grateful it did.

Cheramy explained that she’d known for about two weeks, ever since the announcement, that this would be the final season. While they’d always hoped for five seasons, she said it’s a gift to be able to finish the story on their own terms.

The actor explained how lucky they are to be continuing with the show, noting that many great series are canceled after just one season these days.

Before Season 4 was officially confirmed, Harold Perrineau and Elizabeth Saunders – the actors who play Boyd and Donna – both expressed optimism about the show’s continued success following the premiere of Season 3.

Saunders said the plan was always for a long-term story, but there wasn’t a specific goal of reaching a certain number of seasons, like ten.

Perrineau explained that she and the show’s creators have an understanding: she only receives information about her character’s storyline for the current season, and nothing further.

Cheramy’s comments reflect what the show’s creators and producers said when the series was renewed. John Griffin (creator of Crater), Jeff Pinkner (showrunner known for Lost, Alias, and Fringe), and director Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones, The Institute) announced they had “officially begun work on Season 5” and were excited to finish telling the story.

Season 4 has been gradually revealing answers, but the more we learn, the bigger the mystery becomes. The show’s creators promise we’ll get answers, though those answers will likely lead to even more questions, along with plenty of emotional and frightening moments.

From Season 4 Has a Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Since it first aired in 2022, the sci-fi horror series – set in a town where no one can leave – has received positive reviews. The most recent two seasons have a 97% average approval rating from critics. While Season 4 currently has an 80% audience score, it’s still being released.

The fourth season has brought the mysterious Man in Yellow into the plot, though his introduction was quite surprising. This has created a lot of unanswered questions, but the show seems to be setting up an incredible season and a powerful conclusion with its fifth and final season.

From releases new episodes on MGM+ every Sunday.
