Fans are excited for a major return of Fairy Tail as the series celebrates its 20th anniversary! Creator Hiro Mashima is working hard to deliver a new story, and the publisher, Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, is planning a big celebration to mark the 20th anniversary of the original series’ debut. Mashima is personally returning to create this brand new addition to the popular Fairy Tail franchise.
Hiro Mashima, the creator of Fairy Tail, is starting a new Fairy Tail manga series in Weekly Shonen Magazine. It was originally scheduled to begin in August, but Mashima has finished his work ahead of schedule! Now, the new manga will launch on July 29th – a full week earlier than expected. Be sure to look out for it!
Fairy Tail Revival Confirms New July 2026 Release Date
Although there’s a current sequel series called Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, Hiro Mashima only writes it – the artwork is done by Atsuo Ueda. This new Fairy Tail manga will be the first one Mashima has both written and illustrated since the original series ended in 2017. That means it’s been nine years since the original manga finished, and twenty years since it all started! However, the details of the story for this new manga are still a mystery.
Kodansha has announced this new series will be a short, focused run, so it won’t last very long. It appears Hiro Mashima paused his current series, Dead Rock, to make time for the new Fairy Tail series. Dead Rock is currently on hold and will likely continue once the new Fairy Tail run is finished, meaning this new series will probably only last a few months.
What’s Next for Fairy Tail?

To mark 20 years of Fairy Tail, Kodansha is planning a series of events. Creator Hiro Mashima will be holding autograph sessions across Japan throughout the year, with the possibility of more to come. When the series revival was first announced, Mashima expressed gratitude for the continued support of fans, explaining that it’s thanks to them that Fairy Tail is still being celebrated long after its initial run.
The creator announced they have many new products and events planned for the next year and beyond, and encouraged fans to anticipate them. They also expressed excitement about celebrating the 20th anniversary together. The fact that Fairy Tail is returning a week ahead of schedule shows just how enthusiastic the creator is, making the revival even more thrilling.
