Dutton Ranch Season 2 Chances Addressed By Returning Yellowstone Producer

Beth and Rip’s time in Texas looks to just be getting started.

On May 15th, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) are back in a new series, Dutton Ranch, picking up about a year after the events of Yellowstone. This fourth spin-off from Yellowstone moves the couple from Montana to Texas, where they face challenges as newcomers and encounter powerful rivals among the local ranching community.

With the success of Taylor Sheridan’s expanding universe of shows – including a second season of Marshals already confirmed by CBS – fans are wondering if Dutton Ranch will also return for another season on Paramount+. Director and executive producer Christina Voros told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that she currently has no information about a potential season two, but she’s optimistic about the show’s future and eager to see what happens next.

I’d share any news about a second season if I could. We were incredibly fortunate to work with such a talented cast – it was a real privilege to see Ed Harris and Annette Bening on set every day. It’s not something many people get to experience, and I feel very lucky to have been a part of it. With actors like that, you just want to keep exploring their characters and the story. I could honestly film with them indefinitely.

Even though season 2 of Dutton Ranch hasn’t started production yet, the show has already experienced a significant change. Creator Chad Feehan was fired after finishing season 1, reportedly due to disagreements with established stars and key people involved with Yellowstone.

Speaking with ScreenRant, director Voros, who has also worked on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone and 1883, acknowledged the departure of showrunner Dan Feehan, while praising the world his team built “for the characters.” As the series is about to launch and season two hasn’t been confirmed, Voros couldn’t say how Feehan leaving might affect the show’s future.

Christina Voros praised Chad Feehan’s work in developing compelling challenges for Rip and Beth in the current season. She also clarified that she has no information about a potential season two and that any rumors are just speculation. She expressed gratitude to Feehan and his team for building a strong foundation for the characters’ stories.

If Dutton Ranch gets a second season, some of the actors have hinted at wanting a crossover with the Marshals series. Cole Hauser mentioned he’d like to see his character, Rip, visit Montana again, but it’s more probable that Rip and Beth would appear on Marshals instead of the show briefly returning to Montana.

The original Yellowstone lasted for five seasons, but so far, none of its spinoffs have matched that run – the longest being two seasons. However, 1883 was designed as a single, limited series, and 1923 was always planned for two seasons. The new shows, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, are different. They’re continuing the story without a set end date, which means they could potentially run for many seasons, just like Yellowstone. The casting of stars like Annette Bening and Ed Harris suggests they’re aiming for a long-term success.

The first season of Dutton Ranch, with nine episodes total, will begin streaming on May 15th with the first two episodes available at once. After that, new episodes will be released every Friday. You can watch on Paramount+, and new episodes will also air on the Paramount Network for cable subscribers.
