Spider-Man Series Showrunner Finally Explains Controversial Peter Parker Decision

A new live-action Spider-Man series is coming to Prime Video, but it’s a different take on the story. This isn’t about Peter Parker or the Spider-Man fans are used to. Instead, Nicolas Cage will star as Ben Reilly, a character who becomes a masked crime fighter called “The Spider.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner David Uziel explained the decision to cast Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly instead of Peter Parker. He stated that Peter Parker is strongly associated with youth and growing up, while Ben Reilly offers a chance to tell a different story, separate from the typical Peter Parker narrative.

Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of Ben Reilly is quite a departure from the typical young Peter Parker. In Spider-Noir, Reilly is a private detective working in 1930s New York City, having retired from crime-fighting years earlier. However, something happens that compels him to become The Spider once again.

Uziel clarified that Peter Parker isn’t appearing in Spider-Noir this season. He added, “Not yet,” and indicated he doesn’t think Peter Parker will be in the first season. This leaves the possibility open for his introduction in the future, adding another puzzle to the Spider-Noir storyline.
