For the past two years, the climax of the Ultimate Universe has been brewing, reminiscent of the magnitude of an “Avengers: Endgame.” Since Marvel unveiled its new Ultimate Universe, it’s expanded and garnered numerous accolades. However, a menacing threat has been lurking in the shadows all this time – The Maker, an evil version of Reed Richards who masterminded the Ultimate Universe. After being incarcerated for two years, both in real-life and in-universe, The Maker’s return will trigger what is being referred to as “Ultimate Endgame.
Marvel unveiled the creative crew responsible for Ultimate Endgame at the Marvel Comics: Ultimate Universe Panel during San Diego Comic-Con. This five-part event series is spearheaded by Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf, and others, hitting comic book stores in December. The Maker breaks free from captivity to confront the heroes who have instilled hope and freedom in a world he once dominated firmly. For the first time, characters from all five Ultimate Universe titles unite, and the ultimate destiny of this enthralling new universe is determined in a grand, multi-front battle against The Maker and his formidable allies.
Camp described this project as one of the most significant and thrilling collaborations he’s ever been involved in. He’s really looking forward to it, with all our beloved characters uniting on a grand scale, clashing dramatically, and finally resolving long-standing plotlines. It’s going to be massive, intense, and thanks to the Ultimate Universe, we have the power to alter the world as creators because Marvel has given us free rein to use this expansive playground. It’s a privilege to work on something like this, and it’s been an incredible journey – this is essentially the culmination of all our efforts together.
In simpler terms, “Jonathan Hickman, writer of Ultimate Invasion and Ultimate Spider-Man, stated that the tight continuity work on this smaller project has been excellent from the company. He believes we should continue exploring similar approaches. Your backing of this book is crucial; it enables us to tell stories in this manner. The initial limited series titled “Ultimate Invasion” paved the way for what we now know as the Ultimate Universe. At present, there’s an ongoing event called “Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion“, written by Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, and Jonas Scharf, which introduces Miles Morales, one of the survivors from the original Ultimate Universe, into the new Ultimate Universe. After this series concludes, it seems the line will shift to “Ultimate End“.
Previously, Marvel published promotional artwork for Ultimate Endgame, which mirrors the poster of Avengers: Endgame. This stunning art by Stonehouse depicts the remaining members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from Avengers: Endgame, such as Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, Bruce Banner, Okoye, Ant-Man, and others. In the poster for Ultimate Endgame, Ultimate Universe’s Captain America takes center stage, much like his equivalent in the MCU. Accompanying him are Wasp, Maystorm, Doom (Reed Richards), Spider-Man, Black Panther, Iron Man, and The Maker (Evil Reed Richards).
What stands out is that the fictional work Ultimate Endgame appears authentic, featuring actual hero and creative team names. This is a remarkable artwork, noticeably superior to the poster for Avengers: Endgame.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, the pressure is undeniably on for Ultimate Endgame to deliver an experience as epic and emotionally stirring as Avengers: Endgame. After all, who could forget the heart-wrenching moment when Thanos erased half of humanity in Avengers: Infinity War? The anticipation for the Avengers to rise above this catastrophe and claim victory was palpable. From the thunderous roar that echoed as Captain America wielded Mjolnir, to the triumphant battle cry of “Avengers Assemble!”, the scenes were electrifying. The tears flowed freely when Black Widow and Iron Man made their ultimate sacrifices to save us all from Thanos’ wrath. Can Ultimate Endgame capture our hearts in the same way, given the shorter time frame it has to work with? It promises to be an exciting journey finding out!
