It’s common for people to collect things – from movie figures and childhood books to everyday items like souvenirs. But some collectors build truly remarkable collections over many years, such as comics. These collections often contain valuable and sought-after items. Recently, a massive collection of British comics – the largest ever assembled – was put up for auction and sold for a significant amount, with more auctions still to come.
I was so excited to hear about the auction of Peter Hansen’s incredible collection! He spent a lifetime gathering comics, original artwork, vintage toys, and all sorts of related treasures – even rare DC Double Double Comics and books from the Silver Age. I’ve been following the auctions closely, and the first two parts already brought in over $340,000! It’s amazing, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the upcoming auctions – there’s still so much more to come!
There Are Two More Auctions to Come
According to the BBC, two more sections of this collection will be sold at auction. The first auction is scheduled for June 20th, and the second for July 8th. While the specific items haven’t been revealed, previous auctions suggest there are valuable pieces for comic book enthusiasts. Recently, a Brian Bolland illustration from Camelot 3000 sold for over $12,000, and original cover art from ABC Warriors Book 4: Genocide by Simon Bisley fetched more than $48,000.
This comic collection is particularly noteworthy because it represents only part of Hansen’s total holdings. Although Hansen is selling a large archive of comics now, he still maintains another collection in Canada, where he previously owned a comic shop and plans to move back. He’s also keeping some of his most prized possessions, like first issues of The Beano and 2000 AD that include a sneak peek at Judge Dredd.
You can find out more about Hansen’s collection at Excalibur Comics.
