Many popular anime series run for years with multiple seasons, but some really need to announce a renewal this year. While a lucky few get continued for many seasons, spin-off movies, and special episodes, just as many are sadly cancelled after only one season. Despite this, these shows still have loyal fans who hope for more.
Many promising anime series ended after just one season and haven’t had new episodes in years. It’s disappointing, because these five shows, in particular, have dedicated fans eager for more and plenty of story potential. Here are five anime that deserve a new season announcement this year.
5). How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom

I’ve been watching How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, and it’s a really interesting take on the ‘isekai’ genre – those stories where someone gets transported to another world. It’s not about flashy battles, but about slowly improving a kingdom. The main character, Kazuya Souma, gets reincarnated and basically uses his understanding of how societies and economies work to save the place from falling apart. It’s a bit of an underdog series, not as widely known as some others, but definitely worth checking out if you like a more thoughtful approach to fantasy.
This series is a slow-paced but rewarding watch, focusing on building relationships and dealing with complex social issues. It ended at a particularly interesting point, just as the main character’s kingdom was facing bigger challenges. Luckily, the source novels have a lot more content, meaning the show could continue for quite a while.
4). No Game No Life

When fans discuss Isekai anime they’d like to see continued, No Game, No Life is consistently at the top of the list. While the original light novels are still being published, the anime adaptation has only released one season. It concludes mid-story, leaving a major plotline unresolved as the main characters, a brother and sister, face a dangerous new challenge, and viewers are eagerly awaiting a continuation.
It’s strange that this installment hasn’t been released yet, considering how popular the series still is. There’s a chance we might see it eventually, but it’s been more than ten years since the last one.
3). Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun

Izumi Tsubaki’s Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun is still ongoing as a manga, but the anime adaptation only has one season of 12 episodes. The story begins when Sakura confesses her feelings to Nozaki, only to find out he’s a famous shojo manga artist. They start working together, leading to a unique and hilarious relationship. It’s a very popular series that easily could have had five or six seasons over the past twelve years, and a revival would be fantastic.
2). Yona of the Dawn

When it comes to popular anime that deserve another season, Yona of the Dawn is high on the list. It’s been eleven years since the first season aired, and while it covered a good portion of the story with its 24 episodes, the manga has continued to release new content, including a sequel. There’s still a lot of Yona’s journey to restore her kingdom that could be adapted, and with the growing popularity of historical fantasy, now would be a great time for a new season.
1). Deadman Wonderland

The anime version of Deadman Wonderland is perhaps the most frustrating example of an unfinished adaptation. The first and only season ended on a major cliffhanger fifteen years ago, and hinted at storylines that were never continued. While manga readers know how the story concludes for the main character, Ganta, anime-only viewers are likely unaware that the story even has an ending.
The show really hits its stride and wraps up all its main storylines in the second half. However, unless another season is made, anime fans likely won’t get to see how it all ends.
