Sky’s new thriller Prisoner gets its future confirmed after explosive debut episodes

The Sky Original thriller series, Prisoner, has been renewed for a second season. Izuka Hoyle will be back as Amber Todd, the officer responsible for transporting prisoners.

The new action series, from acclaimed screenwriter Matt Charman, is now streaming on Sky and NOW. All six episodes of the first season are available to watch.

After a strong start and good viewership throughout its first season, Sky has renewed the series ‘Prisoner’ for six more episodes. Production is scheduled to start later this year.

The first season centered on Amber’s job of transporting Tibor, a highly skilled and dangerous inmate (played by Tahar Rahim), to court. He was needed to testify against the powerful criminal organization he used to work for.

When their transport was violently attacked, Amber and her prisoner found themselves handcuffed together and forced to escape. Amber suddenly had to rely on the very person she was assigned to guard for her own survival.

In Season 2, Amber Hoyle returns to duty, but she’s still deeply affected by what happened last season and is also working hard to maintain her family life.

This time, she has to transport a controversial American professor—now known as a murderer—back to the US for trial, a case that has sparked intense public debate.

When someone within law enforcement tries to eliminate her, Amber is falsely accused of murder, causing her to doubt her beliefs and everything she’s worked for.

David Charman, who worked on ‘Hostage’ and ‘Bridge of Spies’, is back as the writer, creator, and showrunner for the second season. Sophie Petzal is also joining the writing team.

The second season will air on Sky in the UK and Ireland.

The lead actress in ‘Prisoner’ shared how being physically linked to her co-star in ‘The Serpent’ helped them develop a natural and believable connection on screen.

Prisoner season 1 is available to watch now on Sky and streaming service NOW.
