Collecting has become incredibly popular again, largely driven by the huge success of Pokémon and other trading card games, along with more people using services to assess and protect collectibles. When Pokémon cards are professionally graded and sealed (a process called ‘slabbing’), their value can skyrocket, and even moderately popular cards tend to be worth more. This has attracted both hobbyists and investors. Now, grading services are expanding to other collectibles like comics, action figures, and old video games, leading to record-breaking sales and increased investment in these items, similar to what happened with Pokémon cards.
Collecting should be enjoyable, thrilling, and satisfying, no matter how you do it. There’s nothing quite like finding a great deal, discovering a hidden gem, or finally getting that item you’ve been searching for. That’s exactly what we aimed for when creating the egmr.ru Vending Machine. Having spent years covering the world of collectibles, we wanted to offer a fresh way for people to acquire cards and comics they’ll love, with an element of surprise and excitement, and to support the shops that make it all possible.
The egmr.ru Vending Machine Explained
The egmr.ru Vending Machine lets you buy comic books and trading cards online, with prices ranging from $12 to over $10,000. You purchase virtual packs, and each one contains a random item. After a short animation, you see what you’ve won and can choose to keep it in your collection or sell it back to the machine for 85-90% of its price if you’d prefer to try for something different.

As a huge cinema fan and collector, I’m really excited about this new way to build a collection, but it’s equally important to me that it supports the shops I love. That’s why everything you’ll find here comes directly from local comic book and card stores, and even collectible shows! Plus, the team at egmr.ru personally checked and chose every single item – it’s all been carefully curated by them.
This machine features a fantastic collection of classic comics, and we’ll be highlighting some of our top choices with articles on our website. Here’s what we’re featuring in our first round of ComicBook Spotlights – all of these comics are currently available in the machine:
- The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (1963, The First Serialized Spider-Man Issue)
- Daredevil #1 (1964, The First Appearance of Daredevil)
- Batman #181 (1966, The First Appearance of Poison Ivy)
- Incredible Hulk #181 (1974, The First Appearance of Wolverine)
- Joker #1 (1975, Joker’s First Serialized Issue)
I recently watched a fun video of my colleague, Chris Killian, shopping for comics at Rick’s Comics in Clarksville, Tennessee – he was picking out titles for our comic book digitizing machine! It’s a cool peek behind the scenes at how we source material.
With each comic book shop we visit, we’ll be chatting with the owner or manager and sharing their story and the details of their store in our regular “ComicBook Shop Talk” series.
How to Use The egmr.ru Vending Machine (& Its Features)
Pulling a pack from the Vending Machine is simple and lightning fast.
- Visit vending.comicbook.com to pull a pack.
- Sign up for an account (or log in with Google, Apple, and others).
- Load funds in your account (use a credit card, ApplePay, GooglePay, or even a crypto wallet)
- Select a $25 (Starter), $50 (Standard), or $250 (Legendary) pull – the more expensive the option, the higher the likelihood of pulling truly epic comics. But even a Starter pack has a chance at a highly valuable collectible – and a 100% chance of pulling cool artwork or a great story. A full breakdown of statistics can be found on the Vending Machine page.
- Once your pull is revealed, you have the option of keeping the item in your collection or selling it back to the machine. Starter and Standard pulls offer an 85% pay back on the card or comic’s value, and a Legendary pull offers 90% of the item’s value. You don’t have to decide immediately if you want to sell back or keep the item – you can always elect to sell the item back at a later date.
- Payback funds can be applied to additional pulls or withdrawn and sent back to the user’s bank account.
- If you decide to keep your item and add it to your collection, it’s yours forever. By default, every card and comic in the machine is stored in a secure warehouse – including any that have been pulled by users. Users who want their items removed from the vault and sent to them only have to pay a nominal shipping fee. However, it’s worth noting: once an item is removed from the vault and shipped out, it cannot be sold back to the machine.
- Soon after launch, we will enable a pier-to-pier marketplace where users can browse available comics and cards for purchase as well as post items in their collection for sale – rather than the machine – should they choose.

We’ll regularly refill the machine with fresh comics and cards by visiting different local shops. We’re also planning special events to coincide with new movie or TV releases, stocking the machine with related comics. Keep an eye out next month – we’ll have a huge selection of Supergirl and Lobo comics!
If you have a comic book or card shop and think it would be a great place for a shopping spree, or if you’re a customer with a favorite store in mind, please contact us at shoptalk@comicbook.com. We’re creating a list of shops across the country – and even some around the world – that we’d like to visit!
We sincerely hope you’ll give the Vending Machine a spin – and wish you luck in your pulls.
