Grogu has quickly become a fan favorite Star Wars character since he first appeared in The Mandalorian. Originally called “the Child,” he was nicknamed “Baby Yoda” due to his resemblance to Yoda. Although he now has a proper name, Grogu is still a child and will likely remain one for quite some time.
Dave Filoni recently told ComicBook that while characters naturally age, it’s uncertain if we’ll see Grogu grow up. He also hinted that part of Grogu’s charm lies in the character’s enigmatic nature, so he remained tight-lipped about future developments.
He acknowledged it was a common question, adding that children naturally grow and change, making it a topic people often ponder.
We’re constantly trying to find the right balance between revealing too much about a character and keeping enough mystery to keep things interesting. Characters like Yoda and Grogu are popular partly because they have an enigmatic quality. It wasn’t always the case that we had Grogu, or even a young Yoda-like character. Now that we do, we’re always considering what the story and the character need to develop naturally and effectively over time.
If you’re curious about how Grogu’s age connects to the way time functions in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t try to explain it using the science from the movie Interstellar. Star Wars has its own rules.
“Yeah, not so much so,” Filoni said. “It’s more in the fantasy world.”
Grogu May Still Be Baby But He’s Getting a Power Upgrade

Grogu isn’t expected to age much in the near future, but he will likely become more powerful in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Jon Favreau has shared that Grogu is learning new abilities, thanks to both Luke Skywalker and Din Djarin.
Grogu has become more skilled,” the speaker explained. “He’s learned from both Luke Skywalker as a Jedi and is training as a Mandalorian, making him quite special. Now it’s time for Grogu to start going on missions and for his guardian to teach him what he knows.”
The movie might show Grogu learning the ways of the Jedi while also going on a separate adventure. Trailers hint that Din Djarin and Grogu will split up at times, with Grogu embarking on a mission with the Anzellans. We’ll have to wait until the film’s release on May 22nd to understand the full story.
