Riley Keough Evades Cannes Dress Code Rule in Sheer Look on Red Carpet

Riley Keough will have you all shook up with this look.

At the May 14th Cannes Film Festival screening of Parallel Tales, the Daisy Jones & the Six actress cleverly worked around the festival’s rule against completely see-through dresses and nudity. She wore an outfit that was subtly sheer, pushing the boundaries of the dress code.

Riley chose a Chanel outfit from their spring line, consisting of a see-through blush-colored blazer and matching beaded skirt. She completed the look with Chanel heels and kept her jewelry minimal. To adhere to the film festival’s dress code, she wore a beige bra and shorts set underneath.

The Cannes Film Festival introduced its dress code policy in 2025 to address a common question: nudity is not allowed on the red carpet or anywhere else at the festival, due to standards of decency.

But it’s not just nudity that’s banned, as the festival also has said no to large gowns.

The festival doesn’t allow overly large outfits, especially those with long trains, as they can block walkways and make it difficult for guests to be seated. Festival staff will not allow anyone onto the Red Carpet who doesn’t follow this rule.

Cannes clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that the dress code isn’t about controlling what people wear, but about preventing complete nudity on the red carpet, which would violate festival rules and French law.

Riley managed to pull off a see-through outfit at this year’s film festival, but Halle Berry completely changed her style for the 2025 opening ceremony.

She explained to Variety at a news conference last May that she couldn’t wear a stunning dress by designer Gaurav Gupta because the long train would have broken the event’s rules. “I’m not going to break the rules,” she said.

Okay, so she completely surprised everyone! I mean, after all the speculation, she didn’t go with the usual designer. She wore this incredible black and white striped dress by Jacquemus – it was flowy and amazing, like a total dream! And she said she had to ‘make a pivot,’ which, honestly, just makes me love her even more. It’s like she just does whatever she wants, and it’s perfect!

Halle understood the reasoning behind the ban on nudity, and even thought it was “probably a good rule.”
